If you attended the 11:00am mass this past weekend at St. Philip, you heard this beautiful piece by Giovani Pierluigi da Palestrina, c. 1588. At least...the music world thought it was by Palestrina until 1897 when the original Marc Antonio Ingegneri composition was found. The text is from a common 16th century latin prayer that translates to:

“O good Jesus, have mercy on us, because you created us, you have redeemed us with your most precious blood.”
