FEELING LIKE YOU'RE GOING IN CIRCLES? YOU'RE MISSING ONE THING

Some seasons feel like one long loop. No end in sight, no eternity in view, just the same circle, the same monotony, week after week.

When it gets that hard, we double down on the disciplines we can do by ourselves. We read. We pray. We worship. Head down, keep pushing.

The discipline we quietly drop is the one that takes other people. Being in church. Being with our people.

Paul tied our endurance to each other in Galatians 6:2: "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

Somebody has to help carry what we're carrying, a few people close enough to notice when we've got nothing left.

Life is hard, and there are days we can't take a single step. Those are the days we need people who will take it with us, or carry us until we can.

We were sure we couldn't go any further. Then we started moving again, because they were right there beside us.

So, how do we press on? We read our Bible, we pray, we praise God in worship, and we let our people share the weight. Then we just keep going.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO ABANDON YOUR FAITH TO LOSE YOUR WAY

Most of us who drift never decide to walk away. Good things just creep in, one of them takes the number one spot, and we get rendered useless. Let's call a few of them out: friends, education, and sports.

Friends are fantastic. But a friend says, "Hey man, I've got an open spot on a foursome this Sunday, great tee time at a fantastic course, you've got to come." And it's just one Sunday. What's the big deal?

The course was great, everybody had a great time, so why not do it again next Sunday? Then somebody adds that you don't have to go to church to be a believer in Jesus Christ. That's peers being used to drag us away from being connected with God.

Education is a good thing, and we've turned it into a god itself. "Look at me, I'm highly educated, so I know what to do. That person over there doesn't even have a college degree." As if that was the goal for all of us.

I have an education. God sent me to seminary for a master's degree. That still isn't the goal.

Sports get the same treatment. We live in a country where club sports have turned into people's gods, and Wednesday nights used to be something sacred before those were taken away a long time ago.

Every one of these is good. Each one has to be put in the right perspective and the right priority list, because a good thing sitting in first place still leaves us useless.

So, what's holding the number one spot right now? Naming it honestly is where things start to move back into order.

WHAT YOU'RE HOLDING ON TO IS COSTING YOU EVERYTHING

You might be holding on to something right now. The relationships, the addictions, the depression, the friendships, the future, and the dreams you can't seem to release.

Freedom, devotion, and reward connect in one line: freedom can lead to devotion, but you have to be willing to lose it all to gain what the Lord has for you.

Mary was set free from demons, and she became so devoted that she was willing to sacrifice what she had to serve the Lord.

The Lord blessed her abundantly through that sacrifice. What she let go of, He more than made up for.

Jesus tied holding on to losing out in John 12:25: "For those who love their life in this world will lose it, but those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity."

Gripping your life tightly is the very thing that loses it. Loosening your grip on it is what keeps it forever.

This has to be a you decision. Nobody makes it on your behalf, and nobody can carry the cost of it for you.

So, are you willing to give everything to the Lord?
