Urban Bicycle Food Ministry - Memphis, TN

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry - Memphis, TN UBFM is a non-profit that seeks out the homeless of Memphis to deliver meals twice weekly

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry seeks out and feeds the homeless in Memphis via bicycle twice each week. We meet every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning to prepare 200 - 300 burritos and hot dogs. We then load them into our packs and trailers, along with other supplies, get on our bikes and seek out those on the streets needing a meal, and a few moments of friendship and love. Anyone is welcome t

Our most recent regularly scheduled Wednesday night ride, which fell on New Year’s Eve, is in the books, and marks a total of 1,299 Wednesday and Saturday rides to seek out our friends on the streets since our inception in 2012.

Thanks to our amazing volunteers and donors, we were able to serve a total of 10,788 meals on these rides in 2025!

That’s 10,788 interactions in which we had the opportunity to communicate to someone feeling forgotten, alone, avoided, or shunned that they are worth seeking out. That they matter, and have dignity.

Thanks so much to all of you who serve and donate!!

Many thanks to Jack Armstrong and Chris Jones of the Memphis Commercial Appeal for telling the story of what we do every week!

If you’d like to donate or volunteer please check us out at ubfmmemphis.org!

Urban Bike Food Ministry was founded in 2012 by Tommy Clark, at the time a student at Memphis Theological Seminary.

Clark had a passion for people and bikes, UBFM director Lyle Udell said, and "he sought God to show him a way to combine those two passions.”

During June and July, UBFM had the privilege of hosting eight incredible volunteer rider groups from across the country! A total of 86 students and their adult leaders joined us in serving our friends on the streets of downtown Memphis. These groups came from the following churches:
- June 4th - First Methodist Church – Shreveport, LA
- June 11th - MacArthur Park Church - San Antonio, TX
- June 18th - First Colony Church - Sugarland, TX
- June 21st - Faithbridge Church - Houston, TX
- June 25th - Old St. Patrick's Church – Chicago, IL
- July 9th - Grace Community Church - Tyler, TX
- July 16th - Southwood Lutheran Church – Lincoln, NE
- July 23rd - Buckingham Road Church of Christ – Garland, TX

It was such a blessing to witness these young volunteers wholeheartedly embrace our mission of seeking out and serving the forgotten with meals, but most importantly, with love.
Through their compassion and dedication, they helped restore dignity and remind those we serve that they are seen, valued, and worthy.

Heard on the street last Saturday morning:

“Thank you so much for coming out in this weather!”

It rained hard during this past Saturday morning’s ride, and harder still during the ride two weeks before. But our riders didn’t hesitate to get out in it to provide meals and compassion to our friends for whom there was no warm dry place to go home to.

I’m so grateful for our volunteers, whose steadfast service, no matter the weather, carries the message to our friends on the street that they’re worth finding, and are not forgotten.

This past Monday UBFM held its annual Thanksgiving dinner for our friends on the streets.
In the past we’ve done this on Thanksgiving Day itself; however, due to the numerous other organizations who will be generously serving nearby on that day we opted for earlier in the week, when meals weren’t as available.

Many thanks to our volunteers and donors, who made it possible for us to serve 68 very grateful people with a meal of ham, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, vegetables, casseroles, biscuits, and desserts!
