Rooted in Peace: A Workshop on Spiritual Nonviolence | Sat., May 30; 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Join MICAH, Tennessee Interfaith Power & Light, and Young, Gifted, & Green for Rooted in Peace, a dynamic workshop on Saturday, May 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Grounded in the spiritual traditions of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, this gathering invites participants to explore the power of nonviolence as a faithful response to injustice and a pathway toward community transformation. Together, we will root ourselves in sacred practices that nurture justice, strengthen relationships, and deepen our shared responsibility to care for creation.

The day will include interactive workshops on nonviolent nonresistance and direct action, mutual aid, strategic storytelling, and youth organizing with a focus on knowing your rights. The program will also feature keynote speaker Emily Yellin, collaborating author of Nonviolent, the new memoir of Rev. James Lawson.

Registration required.

Centenary United Methodist Church: 584 E. McLemore Ave., Memphis

“On the Day of Pentecost, Christians are reminded of God’s abundance, namely the gifts of the Holy Spirit and Peace. Our embrace of these gifts means that we must refrain from sitting still or remaining silent in the face of poverty, injustice, oppression, hatred, evil, violence, and even death; and that our lives and the world will never be the same.”

- The Rev. Ollie V. Rencher, Rector

America will turn 250 on July 4, 2026. Among the diverse ways to celebrate this milestone is Faith250, a program inviting faith communities across the country to gather for the purpose of creating sacred spaces for listening to one another, clarifying shared civic values, and celebrating hopes for America.

Through Faith250, GSL and other nationwide communities, including some interfaith contexts, will spend intentional time reflecting on pivotal texts that have shaped our nation’s history.

We hope you will make plans to join us on this journey over the summer. You can learn more about Faith250 on our website, at gracestlukes.org/faith250 !
