🔄 Transformation: A UU Shared Value 🔄

We adapt to a changing world. Unitarian Universalism affirms that revelation is not sealed—our faith evolves as we discover new truths and perspectives. As Rev. Dr. Sheri Prud’homme writes, transformation is at the heart of our tradition, shaping how we grow spiritually and ethically throughout our lives.

Our communities are places of deep listening, learning, and change. We are invited to reflect, respond, and continually reshape our understanding of the sacred and our role in the world. This openness calls us to embrace complexity, hold paradox, and act with courage.

How has transformation shaped your spiritual journey?

Hi folks—

We’ve been keeping an eye on the weather, and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to move the service online tomorrow.

It may well prove to be one of those cases where, if you remember your umbrella, it won’t rain. But the wintry mix that’s in the forecast hits at just the wrong time—when everyone would be driving to the service. And it will be after a couple of cold days, which increases the chances of ice.

Our mantra during the pandemic was “no one gets sick because of church” and I’m feeling like “no one should have an accident because of church” is a possible update.

Here’s the link for the worship service (it’s our usual worship link):

We hope you'll join us to hear from Rev. Jamie Webster, the director of interfaith ministries at Maryville College. She spoke very movingly at the Trans Day of Remembrance on campus back in November. (She quoted Howard Thurman then, and I'm always a sucker for Thurman.)

Love! Rob

An annual observance, the Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Remembering those we've lost, and strengthening our support of those still here, is more important now than ever. If you would like to learn more, please visit: https://glaad.org/tdor/

All Souls' Day, not to be confused with All Saints' Day, is a day in the Catholic tradition set aside for honoring the dead. Although some other religions celebrate this occasion, most disagree with the theology behind it, as it requires a belief in Purgatory. Per Catholicism, souls go to one of three places: Hell, set aside for those who die in a state of mortal sin; Heaven, for those who pass in a state of grace and in perfect communion with God; and Purgatory, where those free of mortal sin, but still in a state of venial sin go to be cleansed before entering Heaven. Therefore, on this day, prayers for the dead are said. To find out more about All Souls' Day, visit: https://www.catholic.org/saints/allsouls/

Happy Halloween! This holiday has existed in one form or another for over 2,000 years. Originally known as Samhain and celebrated by Celts, it marks the end of summer and the beginning of the cold winter. The Celts also believed that, on this day, the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead became blurred. Today is international Inters*x Awareness Day. Inters*x is a term used to describe people born with any of several s*x characteristics, including chromosome patterns, go**ds, or ge****ls that don't fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies. October 26th is the anniversary of the first public demonstration by inters*x people in North America. In 1996, after not being allowed to deliver an address at the American Academy of Pediatrics, Morgan Holmes, Max Beck, and allies demonstrated. The commemoration of this event began in 2003, and now it is an international day of grass roots action to end the shame, stigma, and secrecy concerning inters*x people, and also end unwanted ge***al cosmetic surgeries on inters*x children.
