Our perception is based upon our individual experiences. Merleau-Ponty wrote of this very human way of understanding phenomena.

When we come across someone who is outside our experience, we have difficulty empathizing with their way of being in the world. (This applies to race, immigrant status, gender, disability, etc.)

To satisfy our need for understanding, we often fall back on stereotypes and tropes. These tropes can be long-held and lead to great misunderstanding. For example, "blind leading the blind," despite its biblical metaphorical intent, can be a damaging stereotype to those with sight impairment.

Ingathering Services mark the beginning of a new congregational year. Our Ingathering Service includes a water communion ceremony.

Congregants are welcome to bring a small bit of water from places that are significant to them and combine them together while sharing the sentiment it holds.

This symbolizes how our lives are joined in community, not unlike how waters are joined in the places they converge.

You do not want to miss our online service this Sunday!

Democracy isn’t a spectator sport. Neither is our faith. This Sunday, join longtime activist and community organizer Caitlin Breedlove for an energizing call to turn our Unitarian Universalist values into collective action.

In a time when discouragement can tempt us toward retreat, we’ll explore how organizing with others can restore hope, protect democracy, and help build the world we believe is possible. Come ready to be challenged, encouraged, and connected to the work ahead.
