PILGRIM ASKS:
If God requires us to be obedient, doesn't that look like legalism? Obedience seems right, but legalism seems wrong. Does the Bible give us clarity?

When we become Christians we choose to obey God. We receive a love from Him and a love of Him we did not previously experience. We continue to obey God in part, out of that love.

Legalism requires obedience to obtain or remain in good standing. As born-again Christians we do not obey God to avoid punishment as under legalism. We avoid punishment as a benefit of obeying God.

Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Romans 8:2-5 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

VLAD ASKS:
What is the meaning of the word “burden” in Galatians 6:5 - "For every man shall bear his own burden"?

In reading the previous verses the context points to the use of the word translated as burden being used figuratively. The figurative meaning is task or service. Each person is responsible and accountable for their own response to the call upon their life. We are all called to minister in some way, to carry on the work of ministry.

The word used in verse two is not the same. It refers to aiding in the work of others, supplying assistance. This is particularly true when and where another is faltering and failing. If they are succumbing to the opportunities to sin we are to exercise special caution. It would be easy to fall into the same trap with them instead of assisting them to escape the problem and overcome it. We are called to work with others. As we do so we must not allow ourselves to expect others to undertake the responsibility for seeing that our work is done.

Galatians 6:1-5 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden.

ANONYMOUS ASKS:
Does the Holy Spirit treat a person with multiple internal identities as a single soul?

Simply because a house is inhabited by multiple people doesn’t mean they all own the house. There is only one entity who is entitled to make decisions as to who will dwell there. The man possessed by a legion of demons had the desire to come to Jesus. (Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him) He could not be held back from exercising that desire and was set free. (see chapter 5 of Mark’s Gospel)

ANONYMOUS ASKS:
What does the Bible mean when it says “save yourself”?

Could you possibly be referring to, “Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”?

If this is what you are asking about it should be noted that the verse is not saying to save yourself. The term, “work out” is translated from one word meaning to finish, complete or accomplish. The Apostle Paul was commending the church at Philippi for their obedience to God, especially in times and areas where he, the apostle, was absent from them. He was encouraging them to continue to use diligence in seeking God’s direction in doctrinal matters and questions as well as their personal lives.

Do you realise that using the Bible to prove the Bible is circular reasoning?

Not when you realize it is a collection of 66 books written by approximately 40 different human authors over a period of 1500 to 1600 years.
