Turner Chapel AME Keeping the Covenant-Married Couples Ministry

Turner Chapel AME Keeping the Covenant-Married Couples Ministry The Married Couples' Ministry of Turner Chapel (Keeping The Covenant) is committed to promoting God-centered marriages.

Our focus is to promote activities that help couples find their couple identity & learn the art of dating your spouse all over again. Our vision is to see husbands and wives be restored and strengthened in their marriages, equipped to relate to each other more happily, lovingly and intimately in accordance with God’s plan for marriage, and become a true reflection of the relationship between Chris

t and the Church. We see couples being transformed by God’s Spirit, love and truth, strengthened in their faith while growing closer to God and ultimately to each other.

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." - Romans 12:10.

With Grateful Hearts: Celebrating Our Love to Stay Sponsors

The Love to Stay: Making Love Last a Lifetime Marriage Retreat was powerful, transformative, and truly unforgettable and it simply would not have happened without the incredible generosity of our sponsors and donors.

Because of their partnership, 45 couples gathered at Château Élan for a weekend marked by connection, renewal, laughter, vulnerability, healing, and covenant strengthening. Their financial gifts and in-kind contributions helped us create an experience defined by excellence, intentionality, and spiritual impact.

Each sponsor did more than support an event. They invested in marriages. They invested in families. They invested in legacy.

The accompanying slides proudly recognize our sponsors by their respective sponsorship levels, celebrating the many ways they helped bring this vision to life. We encourage our friends, followers, and church family to intentionally support the businesses that so faithfully supported this ministry.

To every sponsor and every individual who sowed a seed — we see you, we honor you, and we thank God for you.

Stronger marriages build stronger families. Stronger families build stronger communities. And you helped make that possible.

With grateful hearts and great joy,
The Love To Stay Retreat Planning Committee

The Recommitment Ceremony was simple — yet deeply impactful.

We entered Château Elan’s Pavilion to the beautiful sounds of Chuck Nelson serenading us on the saxophone, creating an atmosphere of reverence and reflection. Each couple received a covenant cord for the hand tying ceremony — a symbol of unity and the threefold strength found in Ecclesiastes 4:9–12.

We were blessed by two powerful scripture readings: Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 read by Martin & Monica Long and 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 read by the new married couples ministry leads Darren & Wendy Helms.

During the unity candle lighting, couples remained seated in quiet reflection as Bennie & Pat Goggans and David & Tangela Jones stood to light the candles on behalf of all 45 couples. As the two flames became one, Pastor Bright declared: “Just as these flames become one light, may your lives continue to shine brighter together than apart.”

And then came the declaration:

Husbands:
I choose you again.
I recommit to love you, honor you, and grow with you.
With God at the center, I promise to remain faithful in covenant.

Wives:
I choose you again.
I recommit to love you, honor you, and grow with you.
With God at the center, I promise to remain faithful in covenant.

Together:
What God has joined together, we choose to stay.

Each couple left with their prayed over covenant cord and a prayed over prayer cloth generously donated by Sis. Shirley Allen — tangible reminders of the vows renewed and the covering placed over their marriages.

The ceremony it was sacred, it was intentional, and it was a covenant renewed.

One of the standout moments of our Love to Stay Marriage Retreat was the Bow Ties & Brotherhood gathering.

While it was organized as a “how-to” session on properly tying a bow tie, it quickly became something much bigger.

It was an opportunity for the husbands to step away together — to talk, laugh, reflect, and encourage one another. The conversations were honest. The energy was strong. And the unity in the room was undeniable.

There is something powerful about men sharpening men.

Bow Ties were tied…
But more importantly, bonds were strengthened.

What an incredible weekend at our Love to Stay – Making Love Last a Lifetime Marriage Retreat at the beautiful Château Élan Resort & Winery. The setting was stunning, but the presence of our God made it absolutely perfect!

First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to our Pastor & Servant Leader, Rev. Dr. Tar-U-Way R.A. Bright, Sr., and First Lady Dr. Retta S. Bright, for their unwavering support, vision, and leadership. Thank you for believing in the importance of strengthening covenant marriages and empowering this ministry to pour into couples in such a meaningful way.

To our phenomenal speakers — thank you for your wisdom, transparency, and powerful messages that challenged and encouraged us. Your words will continue to resonate in the hearts and homes of our couples long after this weekend.

To all of our sponsors, those who donated in-kind services, and every individual who sowed a seed — this weekend would not have been possible without your generous support. A special post dedicated just to you is coming soon.

To our amazing couples — thank you for showing up present, ready, and engaged. From the opening ceremony to every session, to the powerful time our men shared during Bow Ties & Brotherhood, to the elegance of the Gala, and the sacred beauty of the Recommitment Ceremony — you leaned in with open hearts. Your energy, vulnerability, laughter, and love made this retreat unforgettable.

And last but certainly not least, to our incredible planning committee — Brian, Dr. Pam, Chuck, Pam, Willard, Breyone, Kevin, and Nicole — you gave of your time, your talents, and even your finances to ensure this retreat was both meaningful and memorable. You are the forever insulated family. We truly could not have done this without your commitment, sacrifice, and steadfast support — especially during those long Monday night Zoom marathons right in the heart of football season… now that’s real dedication!

We witnessed connection. We witnessed renewal. We witnessed covenant strengthened.

Maya Angelou said, “Always say thank you. It’s the greatest gift you can give someone, because thank you is what you say to God.”

To everyone, we simply say — THANK YOU.

More pictures and reflections to come from a weekend filled with love, covenant, and commitment.

With gratitude, love & many thanks,
Stan & Robin
