Why is the human mind so restless the moment we try to become still?

The Bible speaks of “itching ears.”
Krishna speaks of the restless mind.
Meditation reveals both.

The moment one thing “itches,” the entire mind and body begin scattering into distraction.

What if these ancient teachings were describing the same inner struggle?

After a lifetime of questioning, surviving, rebuilding, and awakening… and after more than a year of writing it, my memoir is finally here.

I Come to the Garden Alone is one of the most personal things I have ever written.

This memoir explores faith, religious trauma, family estrangement, heartbreak, survival, spiritual awakening, and what happens when you finally stop living for everyone else’s expectations and start searching for truth for yourself.

Some parts were painful to relive.
Some truths cost me relationships.
But I told the story anyway.

Not one stone of my former life was left standing.
And somehow… that became the beginning of freedom.

If you have ever had to rebuild yourself from the ashes of your old life, this book may speak to you too.

Don’t force what God isn’t blessing.

You will be known by your fruits…
and so will others.

Pay attention.

Stop trying to fit into spaces that no longer hold you.
Stop shrinking yourself to be accepted.
Stop forcing connections that feel heavy, one-sided, or out of alignment.

Not everyone is meant to go where you’re going.

And that’s okay.

Some people are assigned to your past—
not your purpose.

You weren’t created to blend in.
You were called to stand apart, to lead, to walk a path that requires separation.

So when things don’t flow…
when doors don’t open…
when relationships feel forced…

Take it for what it is.

Let go with peace.
Let others be who they are.
And give yourself permission to move forward without forcing what was never meant to stay.

What is truly aligned with you will come with clarity, not confusion…
with peace, not pressure…
and with fruit that speaks for itself.

Most people were taught to just believe.

But that’s not what the scriptures actually say.

Over and over again, the message is clear:

Seek.
Search.
Ask.
Learn.
Understand.

“Ask and it will be given… seek and you will find…” (Matthew 7:7)

“You will seek me and find me when you search with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

“Get wisdom. Get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7)

“Search for it like hidden treasure.” (Proverbs 2:3–5)

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)

“Test all things; hold fast to what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

“They searched the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” (Acts 17:11)

“You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

This isn’t passive belief.

This is active pursuit.

Question what you’ve been told.
Search deeper than surface-level teachings.
Refuse to stay where your understanding stops growing.

Truth was never afraid of investigation.

And if something tells you not to ask questions…

You should probably start asking more.

If we’re being honest, these stories were never meant to be taken at face value.

Talking animals.
A woman formed from a man’s rib.
A virgin conceiving by the Spirit.

At some point, we have to ask…

Are these biological claims—or symbolic language?

Because when read literally, they collapse under even a basic understanding of reality.

But when read as metaphor, everything shifts.

The serpent becomes the voice of awareness.
The “rib” becomes unity expressed as duality.
The “virgin birth” becomes something pure—untouched by conditioning—coming into form.

This is how ancient texts communicated truth.
Not through science… but through story.

And this is where many miss it—
always learning… yet never coming to the knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 3:7).

Because information isn’t the same as understanding.

You can study endlessly, quote scripture, memorize verses…
and still never see what it’s actually pointing to.

With all your learning—get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).

The problem isn’t the Bible.

It’s the way we were taught to read it.

It was never just about what happened…

It was always about what it means.

And once you see that, you stop forcing belief—

and start uncovering truth.

Many were taught to fear the rapture—fear being taken… fear being left behind.

But what if that message was never about panic in the sky?

What if the “coming” was something deeper… something inward?

Not escape—but awakening.
Not fear—but awareness.

This changes the way you see everything.

What Kind of Book Is the Bible?

For many, the Bible is approached as a historical record—a documentation of events, places, and people.

And it is true:

The Bible references real locations.

Real cultures.

Real historical figures.

But the question is not whether the Bible contains history.

The question is:

Was it written primarily to function as a history book?

Or was history used as a vehicle to communicate something deeper?

The Nature of Scripture — More Than One Layer

The Bible is not a single type of writing. It is a collection of:

Narrative accounts

Poetry

Parables

Prophecy

Symbolic and apocalyptic literature

Even within the text itself, we are told its purpose:

“These are written that you may believe…” (John 20:31)

“All Scripture is given… for teaching, correction, and instruction…” (2 Timothy 3:16)

What Did “Scripture” Mean When It Was Written?

At that time, the modern Bible did not yet exist.

There was no compiled New Testament, no single bound volume.

Scripture referred to the Hebrew writings:

The Law

The Prophets

The Writings

These were the sacred texts known from childhood.

This shows that Scripture was not originally a single book, but a body of writings used for teaching, correction, and formation.

This reinforces that Scripture’s purpose was transformational, not merely informational.

Animals as Symbolic Voices in Scripture

There are moments in Scripture where animals appear to speak.

Animals do not naturally speak human language.

So what is happening?

Throughout history, writers have used animals as symbolic voices. This is known as anthropomorphism.

Examples include Aesop’s Fables and Animal Farm.

These stories are not about animals.

They are about human behavior, awareness, and truth.

In Scripture, when animals speak, the focus is not biology.

The focus is revelation.

The unexpected becomes the voice of truth.

The one assumed to be unaware often sees clearly.

This is a literary and teaching device used across cultures and time.

Extraordinary Narratives and the Purpose of Story

Scripture contains narratives that go beyond ordinary human experience.

The story of Jonah describes a man inside a great fish for three days.

Rather than forcing a purely literal or dismissive view, we can ask:

What is the purpose of the narrative?

Across respected literature, extraordinary and even impossible scenarios are used to communicate deeper truths.

The Pilgrim’s Progress presents symbolic locations representing internal states.

Dante’s Inferno presents a structured journey representing moral and psychological realities.

Animal Farm uses animals to represent human systems.

These are not read as literal events.

They are understood as meaningful narratives.

The pattern in Jonah reflects:

Descent

Confinement

Reflection

Return

These are recognizable patterns in human experience.

The question is not only “Did this happen?”

But also:

“What is being revealed?”

The Bible contains historical elements.

But it is not primarily a history book.

It is a layered literary work.

It uses real-world settings, narrative, and symbolism to communicate truth about human nature, transformation, and the experience of God.

It is not diminished by this understanding.

It is elevated.

Because it moves beyond information…

and into transformation.
