This morning we woke up to horrific news out of Montreal: the murder of Rabbi Michael Moshe Mizrachi and a Montreal police officer. Meanwhile, in Brooklyn, a coffee shop posted online that Congressman Dan Goldman was a "genocide enabler" and should not return after purchasing a coffee there the day before.

This moment is frightening for many Jewish people and for those who stand with us. If you need to talk, please know that your Congregation Beth Or clergy is here for you.

You know what else happened yesterday at Beth Or?

Singing. Learning. Praying. Playing. Laughing. Acts of social action and social justice.

We welcomed children younger than one year old and adults in their nineties through our doors. We created Jewish community. We cultivated Jewish joy. All of these are acts of resistance against hate.

In moments like this, we refuse to be defined by fear. We choose Jewish life in the face of intimidation.

We are a lighthouse in the storm.
