This summer, we invite those of you who want to slow down and be present to what is rather than what was or should be to join Janet in sitting beside the prairie for twenty minutes or walking in Rasmussen Woods for up to an hour. We’ll lay down our to-do lists. We’ll stop counting our steps. And as we practice listening for the crickets in the grass and the wind in the trees, we’ll practice listening for God, too. Watch here for details on events starting with a walk on Saturday, June 13th.

The eternal Creator calls us. The risen Savior sends us. The dynamic Spirit empowers us. Go into all the world, making disciples for Jesus Christ. Go in peace! Amen.

Some say that, apparently, with the idea that Pentecost is the Church's birthday. I've never been in a church where that's the common understanding, but I kind of like it, But you have to admit, ain't no party like a Holy Spirit party. Because, literally, the doesn't stop:

The Holy Spirit, and by extension those in its in its grasp, surprises, exceeds our efforts to pin down its source or itinerary, and resists simple definition. What does seem clear and definite, though, is that SOMETHING powerful, moving, igniting must have happened to get this whole movement started. Can we still get in on that?

Who is Janet Anderson the new Director of Christian Education.

Janet Anderson was raised in the Episcopal Church and developed there a reverence for God and a love of language and music for expressing hope and gratitude. Her professional life has been a ministry of words, with years spent teaching college English, tutoring and providing creative writing opportunities for K-12 students, doing community outreach with Barnes & Noble, and directing the Westminster Town Hall Forum. She believes strongly in the power of stories.

Bookish as a child, Janet was lucky to have been born into a family that enjoyed being outdoors—and luckier still to have adopted later in life a dog who liked long walks. From these teachers, she learned to see and to hear the happiness that God creates and shares in the natural world.

Janet has experience with faith formation work for children and adults in the Episcopal Church and the UCC. She also worked at the Minnesota Conference UCC helping seminary students through the process of ordination and connecting pastors with churches in the search-and-call process.

Locally, Janet is on the board of the Betsy-Tacy Society. She's also a pianist and a singer who considers music a form of prayer. As a writer, she's working on a manuscript about the wisdom gained from walks in urban nature with her dog. Janet and her husband Tim live in St. Peter

Dear Lord,

On this Memorial Day, we ask You to comfort those who have lost loved ones.

Give peace to those who grieve on this day.

May they find solace in Your presence and hope through Your Word.

We also thank You for those who gave up their lives for our freedom.

Thank You for the liberties and blessings that we enjoy because of their sacrifice.

As we remember their sacrifice today, may we also remember the sacrifice of Your own Son, Jesus.

The willingness of those to put their country first points us to Christ’s willingness to put us first.

Amen.
