How Long Will He Bear With Us
Reading: Luke 9:41; Romans 8:29-30; 1 John 3:1-3

Devotional: Jesus asked how long he would have to put up with an unbelieving and perverse generation. The question pierces. But the gospel answers it with stunning grace. Romans 8 traces a chain that does not break -- predestined, called, justified, glorified. Not merely tolerated. Glorified. First John 3 promises that when Christ appears, those who belong to him will be made like him. This is not the reluctant endurance of a God gritting his teeth through our failures. This is a Father who intends to present his children in full and radiant glory. Let that truth steady you today, and walk accordingly.

Fear, Silence, and the Questions We Avoid
Reading: Luke 9:43-45; Mark 9:24; Romans 8:15-17

Devotional: The disciples were afraid to ask Jesus about his coming suffering. They had heard enough to be unsettled, and they chose silence over understanding. Many of us do the same -- we sense a hard truth pressing against our comfortable assumptions, and we change the subject. But Romans 8 tells us we have not received a spirit of fear. We are invited to cry out to God as children cry to a father. The man in Mark 9 modeled this honestly: "I believe; help my unbelief." That prayer is not weakness. It is the most honest and courageous thing a struggling believer can say.

The Crooked Path of Pride
Reading: Luke 9:46-48; Psalm 1:1-6; Philippians 2:1-8

Devotional: Minutes after Jesus foretold his betrayal and death, the disciples began debating who among them was greatest. Their pride did not announce itself loudly. It crept in quietly through distraction and comparison. Psalm 1 describes the person who meditates on God's word as a tree planted by water -- rooted, fruitful, and unmoved. The person who drifts toward pride becomes like chaff, easily scattered. Jesus answered the disciples' argument not with a lecture but with a child -- a picture of dependence and lowliness. Where in your life has comparison quietly replaced contentment? Bring it honestly before God today.

The Mercy Behind the Rebuke
Reading: Luke 9:41; Deuteronomy 32:1-6; Hebrews 12:5-11

Devotional: "You unbelieving and perverse generation" sounds harsh until you understand who is speaking and to whom. This is not the condemnation of a stranger. This is the frustration of a shepherd whose own sheep have wandered into danger. Deuteronomy 32 records God expressing the same grief over Israel centuries earlier. The rebuke did not end the relationship -- it was part of it. Hebrews 12 reminds us that the Lord disciplines those he loves. When conviction stings, resist the urge to run. A loving Father who corrects is infinitely more trustworthy than one who simply looks away.

Bible Story: Rahab Helps the Spies
Big Idea: God wants us to put our faith into action.
Memory Verse: “It is the same with faith. If it doesn’t cause us to do something, it’s dead.” James 2:17 (NifV)

God promises to help those who call upon Him. Rahab didn’t exactly ask God for help, but she did demonstrate her faith in God by asking two of God’s people for help when the nation of Israel was preparing to conquer her hometown of Jericho. God used them not only to save Rahab’s life, but also to welcome her into the people of God. We’re diving into that incredible story as we kick off a new series this week!
