Some information about the devastating floods in Nepal.

Recent catastrophic flash floods along the Trishuli and Bhote Koshi rivers have caused destruction throughout northern Nepal's Himalayan communities. Flood waters swept away infrastructure, bridges, businesses, farms, and homes, resulting in hundreds of confirmed casualties and leaving numerous residents and tourists unaccounted for as rescue and recovery continue.

The Himalayan Church of the Lutheran Confession Nepal (HCLCN) has congregations and church members in the Rasuwa, Dhading, and Chitwan districts. Pastor Raju and his brother Rajan, are preparing to travel to the impacted area as soon as possible. They will bring the comfort of God's word as they evaluate the damage and identify opportunities to provide humanitarian aid and relief in the name of Jesus Christ.

Communication with Raju continues as we determine how CLC-Kinship can best assist affected HCLCN congregations and families.

Please keep the HCLCN and all the people of Nepal in your prayers, asking God to grant comfort to grieving families, protect relief workers, provide shelter for the displaced, and open doors for His mercy to shine through this tragedy.

Go to church.
Go when you're tired.
Go when you've had a hard week.
Go when you don't feel like it.
Go when life feels messy.
Go when staying home would be easier.

Not because going to church makes you a better Christian, but because we weren't meant to follow Jesus alone.
We need the Word.
We need encouragement.
We need other believers.
We need to worship together.

Don't wait until life is going well to draw near to God. Make seeking Him a part of your life in every season.

We pray for rain.
We pray for safety.
We pray for mercy.
We pray for resilience.
We pray for restoration.
We pray for the firefighters and first responders who risk everything to help others.
We pray for the people who have lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods.
We pray that times of trouble bring us closer to you, o Lord.

Psalm 46:1-3
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

REMINDER: Our worship service will be at 11:30 am this week due to our quarterly voters meeting after church.

Over the past few weeks, our readings have focused on the nature of the Kingdom of God, the beginnings of the Christian life, and vital features of the godly life.

Our sermon text this week, from 1 Timothy 6:6-12, begins a series of readings that focus on the individual Christian life.

This week, godliness.

Paul pictures happiness and blessing as altogether independent of money. But many Christians refuse to believe him. They worship God, but somewhere they have hidden away a little idol, to whom they offer daily sacrifice.

The fight for existence is the only one some people know; its principle is: Money is your fortune!

The fight of faith is the true issue, and its principle is: Christ is your fortune! — Righteousness is better than riches; godliness more precious than gold; faith nets more than finance; and love never needs to worry about lack. And the prize does not fade away, but is everlasting life.

May the Lord richly bless your worship of Him this weekend!

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pray for God's blessing on our nation, His protection for all who serve, and His comfort for Gold Star families.
