This Week's Message from
Father Michael Amesse

May 31, 2026

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I have always loved this devotion. Why? Because it reminds us who Jesus is. He is not distant. He is not cold. He is not indifferent to our struggles. His heart burns with love for His people.

The image of the Sacred Heart tells a story. The flames remind us of His love. The crown of thorns reminds us of His suffering. The wound in His side reminds us that He gave everything for us.

Even after all these centuries, Jesus still invites us to come close to Him. In a world filled with anger and division, we need the Sacred Heart more than ever. We need mercy. We need compassion. We need forgiveness. The Sacred Heart reminds us that no one is beyond God’s love. No one is forgotten. No one is abandoned.

I think many people today carry heavy burdens. Worry. Loneliness. Fear. Grief. The Sacred Heart of Jesus reminds us that we do not carry those burdens alone. This devotion is not only about honoring Jesus. It is also about becoming more like Him. If we love the Sacred Heart, then our hearts should become more patient. More forgiving. More compassionate.

As we begin this month of June, let us place our families, our parish, and our hearts into the loving care of Jesus.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

I remember you at Mass.

Our Mission

We who minister at the Shrine are committed to work collaboratively with one another and with you. Our aim is to provide a place of prayer, conscious reflection, and social action that is hospitable to and calls forth the gifts of all who come to the Shrine. We do this in the spirit of Jesus Christ and of
Saint Eugene de Mazenod, founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Our Mission is based on Matthew 11:28:
"Come to me all you who labor and are overburdoned, and I will give you rest"

This Week's Message from
Father Michael Amesse

May 24, 2026

There is something beautiful about Pentecost. After the sorrow of Good Friday, the joy of Easter morning, and the wonder of the Ascension, the disciples are still gathered together—waiting, praying, uncertain of what comes next. Then suddenly, the Holy Spirit descends upon them like wind and fire, filling them with courage, faith, and hope. The frightened disciples become bold witnesses to the Gospel.
The same Holy Spirit given to the apostles is given to us. Sometimes we think of Pentecost as an event from long ago, but the Holy Spirit is still alive and active in the Church today. The Spirit strengthens us when we are weary, comforts us when we are hurting, and challenges us when we have become too comfortable. The Spirit inspires acts of kindness, forgiveness, generosity, and love. Every time we choose compassion over anger, peace over division, or faith over fear, the Holy Spirit is at work.

We live in a world that often feels noisy, divided, and anxious. Pentecost reminds us that God has not abandoned His people. The Spirit continues to guide the Church and renew the hearts of the faithful. Sometimes we look for dramatic signs and wonders, but often the Holy Spirit comes quietly—in prayer, in the Eucharist, in the love of family and friends, and in the simple moments where grace touches our lives.

This Pentecost, let us pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our Shrine, our families, and our community. May the Spirit help us to become people of deeper faith, greater charity, and joyful hope. And may we, like the apostles, have the courage to share the love of Christ with the world around us.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love.

I remember you at Mass.
