First Christian Church Little Rock WHO ARE THE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST? Our movement began on the frontier of America in the early 1800's. Their hope was to bring unity among Christians.

The purpose of this church shall be as revealed in the New Testament, to win people to faith in Jesus Christ and commit them actively to the church, to help them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ that, increasingly, they may know and do like Him Alexander the Thomas Campbell and Barton Stone came from the Presbyterian Church with a desire to do away with divisive creeds and practices. They

proclaimed: "No Creed but Christ, No book but the Bible", "In essentials of our faith unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things love." These founders' focus upon bringing the Body of Christ together is still a powerful influence in the the Church. Other marks of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) include:

People become members by affirming the 'Good Confession' ("Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and do you accept him as your Lord and Savior?") and then being Baptized (if previously not having been Baptized). The Bible is our guide with individual members encouraged to grow in their understanding of the faith with the support of the church. All Believers are called into the work of Christ in building God's kingdom. Every Christian has a special place in the work that Christ wants done. We Baptize by immersion but accept those who have been baptized in other methods. The Lord's Supper is celebrated each week with all believers invited to share in the celebration. Today there are around 3,740 congregations with over 700,000 members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada.
