We are delighted to announce that Mount Vernon Baptist Church will be celebrating its 179th Homecoming this year. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance this special occasion, we have made an important change regarding the timing of the event. Beginning this year, and continuing in the years to come, Homecoming will now be held on the First Sunday in October. This adjustment allows us to enjoy the celebration during a time when the weather is much cooler compared to the middle of July.

We are honored to welcome Former Pastor, Scott Cappleman, who will deliver our Homecoming message this year. Scott served Mount Vernon Baptist Church from 1992 to 1995 and has been the Pastor of Cross Point Church in Starkville, MS since 2005. Our music will be led by Dr. Steve Bishop, who was Mount Vernon’s Music Director from 1993 to 1996. Steven is currently the President of Southwest Mississippi Community College, Summit, MS since July 2011.

As we gather for this 179th Homecoming to honor the LORD and His church, we also take time to celebrate Mount Vernon’s rich history and bright future. Everyone is welcome—please bring a covered dish, join in fellowship, share cherished memories, and, most importantly, worship the Lord together! The Homecoming service on October 4,2026 will begin at 10:30 a.m., and we look forward to a day filled with community, gratitude, and belonging.
