If we are going to build women up, we need to stop making them s*x objects. As men, we are quick to point out when a woman is attractive; however, getting to know her takes much more work, and that means learning her heart. I can hear it now: “You don’t get it, man. She is so hot!” Okay, and so is the spicy chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A. Calm down! You can find your wife or girlfriend s*xy, but you should not think this about all women. Those other women are someone’s sister, daughter, and umm….wife.

To build up men, we must have honest conversations with them. We must talk about real issues. Often in the religious world (not just Christians), we have made being masculine synonymous with being a member of an organization. Just be a member, dress nicely, and say the right things. Don’t offend Aunt Gertrude, who is the church matriarch. Because of this, we have made many church members but not disciples of Jesus. There is a stark difference. Talk to men about what is really destroying the masculine heart: po*******hy, social media addiction, religion over relationship, and lesser gods.

If we are going to build up men in every area that we occupy, we must admit that we have failed men. Actually, we need to confess and repent. There is a wave of feminism right now that just hates men. It has nothing to do with women’s rights and a lot to do with the wounded hearts of those women involved. If you want men (and women) to do well, you cannot hate either gender. It is unhealthy, unholy, and evil. Stop being a hater! Likewise, men should not be hating on women either. It is not cute. You are being a jerk. Knock it off!

I recently heard on a podcast: "If you are more worried about the opinions of others than what God thinks, you will lose yourself." We will literally lose our heart and soul. This is why it is unhealthy to entertain vague feedback ("people are saying") and be afraid of offending people. Let Them.

I recently had some folks reach out and ask why I post often on men's mental health and supporting clergy. I advocate for men's MH because I have seen what is out there to support us. It is minimal and often a joke. Men don't want a book club. They want others they can be raw and vulnerable with. There are too many angry mom blogs and man-hating platforms that would rather tear us down than build men up. Stay grounded!

I support clergy because I know what it is like to lead in a world that is more upset over offending people than walking in Truth. Add in the political landscape that presses on the Christian Church and the ease to make church members yet the difficulty to make disciples of Jesus. If we are going to support each other, pastors, we need to stop bashing other denominations. We need to stop blaming Covid19. No excuses. We must own our churches' impact on our respective communities. Lastly, we must address our own mental health.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. In a culture that often tries to vilify and emasculate us men, stay true to God's plan for you. Stay strong. Stay focused. Be a MAN! May your day be awesome!

June is Men's Mental Health month. I've seen few posts on this topic. Why? Because it's not "cool" and it can't be weaved into something political. It doesn't get votes. This month, help a guy out. Your husband, boyfriend, brother, neighbor, etc---many are fighting silent battles. Men matter. Do something about it.

I am not advocating for you to live a boring life and never leave the house. This sounds awful! However, how we steward our time, talents, money, and relationships is a direct reflection of our trust in God. All that we have is not ours, anyway. It’s God’s.

This is where your identity in God is vital. In God, you can have joy and peace. In God, you can find beauty and rest in your daily. And in God, you don’t need to keep up with the Joneses.

We have bought into the lie that if we love one another, then we must agree with one another. This is unhealthy, unbiblical, and dumb. This view is unhealthy because it means we will bend to every person and situation for optics, not to upset the apple cart.

Sabbath Silence: No headphones. No music. Just what is present. Kids playing outside nearby. Birds chirping loudly. The wind blowing through my hair like Fabio.

Splitting firewood is more than a chore. It is a sacred rhythm. There is nothing glorious about this task. But it is a reminder that God is not limited to those stained glass church moments. God is in the details of Creation. And it is good.
