How can we help someone who is hurting? Last night, Pastor Chad spoke on how the book of Job can demonstrate both the wrong and the right responses to others’ suffering. Job 2 first shows us that we should not be cynical to someone who is hurting. Cynicism often stems from a lack of hope, and we should resist the urge to sin in the midst of their suffering. It also tells us to not be critical of someone hurting, and to resist the urge to analyze it.
So how can we actually help someone who is hurting? Later chapters in Job show us how.
* Be close (ch.32-37).
* Be humble (32:6).
* Refrain (32:11-12).
* Reframe (33:14-30; 36:15).
* Pray (the Bible).
There is no substitute for your presence in the midst of someone’s pain. Share the Gospel and biblical truths with them, so that they may have true hope.
