What Happens to the Body of Christ When We Underestimate the Power of Prayer? Prayer is the lifeline of the Church. The Church was conceived in prayer, empowered through prayer, and advances only through prayer. Before Pentecost came, the disciples prayed (Acts 1:14); before miracles occurred, they prayed (Acts 4:31); before prison doors opened, they prayed (Acts 12:5); and before the Gospel spread to nations, they prayed (Acts 13:2–3).
Prayer is not merely one ministry among many—it is the foundation upon which the Church stands. When prayer is underestimated, the Church becomes strategically vulnerable in spiritual warfare.
As 2 Corinthians 2:11 warns, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” Satan is not threatened by impressive buildings, eloquent sermons, sophisticated programs, or religious activity; he is threatened by a Church that knows how to pray and exercise its God-given authority.
One major consequence of prayerlessness is that spiritual power diminishes. Prayerlessness inevitably leads to spiritual decline. Without prayer, sermons lose conviction and fire, worship becomes performance rather than encounter, ministry becomes routine rather than Spirit-led, and the manifest presence of God becomes less evident.
Acts 4:31 declares, “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.” A praying church carries spiritual power, boldness, and the tangible presence of God, but when prayer is neglected, spiritual strength, effectiveness, and divine impact begin to fade.
