Dear Calvary UMC Family,

Due to a power outage in our neighborhood, Calvary is currently without electricity. We have been informed that power may not be restored until around noon today. As a result, we must cancel this morning's worship service.

This Sunday promises to be a joyful and meaningful day in the life of our church as we celebrate Youth Sunday, honor our high school and college graduates, and worship alongside some of our youngest disciples.

This year, our youth have been reflecting on one of Calvary’s core values: Spiritual Growth. They have planned and will lead a worship service centered on the practices that help them grow closer to Christ. Through prayer, service, generosity, silence, and communion, they will share how God is at work in their lives and how these spiritual disciplines help them become more faithful disciples.

What a gift it is to hear from the next generation—not only about what they believe, but how they are learning to live out their faith.

We will also celebrate our graduates, recognizing an important milestone in their journeys. As they prepare for new chapters of life, we have an opportunity to surround them with encouragement, prayer, and the reminder that the church walks beside them wherever God may lead.

Adding to the joy of the morning, our Children’s Choir will present a special “cantata,” sharing several of their favorite anthems from the past year. Their music will be a beautiful testimony to the faith, creativity, and enthusiasm of our youngest members.

Come ready to celebrate. Come ready to encourage. Most importantly, come ready to encounter God and be inspired to take the next step in your own journey of faith.

Calvary Night @ Sidewalk Warriors
Thursday, June 18th
Our next churchwide night to volunteer at Sidewalk Warriors will be on Thursday, June 18! We will volunteer to help with distribution - please plan to arrive at 5:30 pm, and stay until about 8:00 pm. If you're able to help with set-up, you may arrive at any earlier time that works for your schedule (set-up begins around 3:30).

The mission of Sidewalk Warriors is to "provide compassionate support to those in need, offering hearty meals, essential supplies, and a sense of community." They are located outside of Christ Church UMC, 35 State St., Troy. Please contact Grace Paster if you're able to volunteer in June, or if you have any questions ([email protected], 518-248-3780). There will also be a sign-up on the round table in the Gathering Space.

We want to thank April Snow from Center Brunswick UMC for joining us last Sunday for a conversation about how we, as a congregation, can deepen our care for and support of trans, non binary and other beloved siblings in Christ. She brought both her lived experience and thoughtful leadership to help deepen our collective understanding and appreciation for the trans community. When Calvary joined the Reconciling Ministries Network 3 years ago we made an ongoing commitment to learning and growing. Through Pride month we will have some more opportunities to learn from and support our community.

Friday, June 19th at 9:30am to 5pm
Join us for our annual Skye Farm Day at Camp Event on Friday, June 19th from 9:30am - 5pm! This day includes a service project followed by lunch and an afternoon of recreation! This is a great opportunity to give back while becoming acquainted with the summer camps brought to us by the Upper New York Conference. Please note: This event IS on a Friday this year. This is Juneteenth, a federal holiday so recognize that many people and children will have this day off. Consider using this time to honor the day through service and fellowship!
