The Most Reverend John J. Gomez, Bishop of Laredo, and the Diocese of Laredo join the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in a nationwide invitation to prayer and action in defense of human life.

We invite our community to join us in prayer through the intercession of St. Joseph, Defender of Life, for unborn children, mothers, families, and all those working to uphold the dignity of every human life.

From now through October 31, the faithful are also encouraged to learn more and participate in the USCCB’s Respect Life Prayer and Action initiative.

As a diocesan family, we unite with our bishops throughout the United States in prayer and in our commitment to welcome, cherish, and support both mother and child with compassion, care, and hope.

Monseñor John J. Gomez y la Diócesis de Laredo se unen a la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos en una invitación nacional a la oración y a la acción en defensa de la vida humana.

Invitamos a nuestra comunidad a unirse a nosotros en oración, por intercesión de San José, Defensor de la Vida, por los niños no nacidos, las madres, las familias y por todos aquellos que trabajan para defender la dignidad de toda vida humana.

Desde ahora y hasta el 31 de octubre, los fieles también están invitados a conocer más y a participar en la iniciativa Respect Life Prayer and Action de la USCCB.

🇨🇴🙏 United in Prayer for Colombia | Unidos en Oración por Colombia

As the Diocese of Laredo, we unite with the Most Reverend John J. Gomez, Bishop of Laredo, in prayer and solidarity with the people of his native Colombia following the devastating earthquake.

Together as a diocesan family, we pray for those who have lost their lives, for the injured, for those awaiting rescue, and for all families experiencing grief, fear, and uncertainty. We pray in a special way for first responders, medical personnel, volunteers, clergy, religious, and all those working tirelessly to bring assistance, comfort, and hope to the communities affected.

We extend our prayerful closeness to our brothers and sisters throughout the Church in Colombia. Our prayers also embrace all those throughout the world who have recently been affected by earthquakes, natural disasters, and other tragedies.

May the Lord comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who suffer, protect those working to save lives, and bring hope to all those affected.

We invite all the faithful of the Diocese of Laredo to join Bishop Gomez in prayer.

Celebrating 100 Years of Franciscan Presence in Hebbronville!

With joy and gratitude, the faithful gathered in Hebbronville to celebrate 100 years of Franciscan presence, faith, and service in the community.

The Most Reverend John J. Gomez, J.C.L., Bishop of Laredo, joined Fr. Juan José Ibarra, OFM, and Fray Gabriel Martín Cardiel Ponce, OFM, Provincial Minister, along with clergy, religious, parishioners, and guests for a Mass of Thanksgiving commemorating this historic milestone.

The celebration also included the unveiling of a Texas Historical Marker, recognizing a century of Franciscan presence and ministry in Hebbronville.This centennial was a joyful occasion for our diocesan family to come together in faith and thanksgiving, honoring the generations who have served this community and the legacy they continue today.May God continue to bless the Franciscan Friars, the faithful of Hebbronville, and our entire Diocese.

As we prepare to begin a new school year, Bishop John J. Gomez celebrated the annual Convocation Mass with the principals, teachers, and staff of the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Laredo.

We are grateful for the faithful educators from Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School (Eagle Pass), St. Augustine High School, St. Augustine Middle School, St. Augustine Elementary School, Mary Help of Christians School, and Blessed Sacrament School, who have answered the call to form young minds and hearts in the light of Christ.

May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen them throughout the school year as they continue their ministry of Catholic education with wisdom, compassion, and joy.

Please keep all of our Catholic school faculty, staff, and administrators in your prayers as they begin this new academic year.

There is great joy in the Diocese of Laredo.

God continues to call laborers into His vineyard, and today we give thanks for the gift of Father Johnny Alexis Hernandez.

Your ordination is a moment of grace for our local Church and a reminder that the Lord never ceases to call faithful hearts to serve His people.

Welcome, Father Johnny. We are blessed to walk with you as you begin your priestly ministry, and we pray that the Lord will sustain you with His love, wisdom, and peace for many years to come.
