Que el Espíritu Santo lo fortalezca para anunciar el Evangelio con valentía y fidelidad, guiando a los fieles hacia un encuentro más profundo con Jesucristo.

Acompañemos al Obispo Electo John J. Gómez con nuestras oraciones mientras se prepara para servir como pastor de nuestra Iglesia local.

As we continue our nine days of prayer, we invite the faithful of the Diocese of Laredo to join us in praying for Bishop-elect John J. Gómez.

Day Two: Wisdom and Prudence in Leadership

Today we pray that the Holy Spirit may grant Bishop-elect John wisdom and prudence as he guides the Diocese of Laredo in faithfulness to the Gospel.

May the Lord bless him with a discerning heart, steadfast faith, and the grace to lead God’s people according to the teachings of Christ and His Church.

Novena for the Ordination and Installation of Bishop-elect John J. Gómez

As we prepare for the ordination and installation of Bishop-elect John J. Gómez, the Diocese of Laredo invites all clergy, religious, and faithful to unite in nine days of prayer for our future bishop.

Day One: A Shepherd After the Heart of Christ

Today we pray that Bishop-elect John J. Gómez may always be conformed to the Heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and lead God’s people with charity, humility, wisdom, and courage.

May the Holy Spirit strengthen him as he prepares to receive the fullness of the Sacrament of Holy Orders and begin his ministry as shepherd of the Church in Laredo.

We encourage all the faithful to join us in praying today’s novena and to continue accompanying Bishop-elect John J. Gómez with your prayers throughout these days of preparation.

Today on Father’s Day, we pray for all fathers: those who are new dads, grieving a loss, or longing to become fathers. We also pray for husbands facing infertility, that they may be strengthened in their vocation to love.

Please keep Transitional Deacon Johnny Alexis Hernandez in your prayers as he continues his canonical retreat at Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon.

Since 1889, Mount Angel Seminary has formed thousands of priests who now serve more than 11 million Catholics in nearly 100 dioceses and religious communities around the world. As the oldest seminary in the western United States, Mount Angel is the only seminary in the West to offer a College of Liberal Arts, a Graduate School of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry degree program.

As Deacon Johnny spends these sacred days in prayer and reflection, we invite the faithful of the Diocese of Laredo to join us in praying for him, that the Holy Spirit may strengthen him and fill him with peace, courage, and joy as he prepares for ordination to the priesthood on July 25, 2026.

The Diocese of Laredo invites all the faithful to join in prayer today as the Catholic bishops of the United States consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

At 3:00 PM Central Time, bishops, parishes, and Catholics across the country will unite in this historic act of faith as part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Let us come together in prayer and entrust our nation, our communities, and our families to the loving Heart of Jesus.

Today we celebrate a truly extraordinary milestone in the life of Bishop James A. Tamayo as he marks the 50th Anniversary of his Priestly Ordination.

For five decades, Bishop Tamayo has faithfully answered God’s call, serving the Church with dedication, humility, and a shepherd’s heart. His priesthood has touched countless lives through his leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to proclaiming the Gospel and serving the People of God.

Pictured today during the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Spring Plenary Assembly, Bishop Tamayo is joined by His Excellency Archbishop Gabriel Caccia, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, who also celebrates his priestly anniversary today.

As we give thanks for Bishop Tamayo’s Golden Jubilee and for the ministry of Archbishop Caccia, we ask the Lord to continue blessing them with wisdom, strength, and abundant grace.
