A Second Collection will be taken up this weekend, August 8/9th, in the Diocese of Laredo to provide funds for Catholic Charities to help with basic necessities for those suffering from the recent flooding in parts of our diocese. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Congratulations, Fr. Johnny

We congratulate Fr. Johnny Hernandez on his ordination to the priesthood today, July 25th, at San Augustin Cathedral. Please pray for him as he begins his priestly ministry and let pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. This Fall, Fr. Johnny will continue further studies in Chicago.

A Prayer for America’s 250th Anniversary

O God,
Lord of history and of every nation under heaven, we give You thanks for the 250 years
since the founding of these United States.
Look with favor upon this land which we love. Grant that its people may be
guided by truth and charity.
Bless all who serve in elected office.
May they govern with integrity and humility. Strengthen families, renew communities,
and heal every division that weakens our life together. We ask especially through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, patroness of these United States, that this nation may remain a land
where human dignity is honored,
where the weak are protected,
and where hope is never extinguished.
As we mark this 250th year,
grant that we may recommit ourselves
to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
in a way that is ever more just, more united,
and more faithful to Your will.

Today we witnessed the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Bishop John Jairo Gomez as the Second Bishop of the Diocese of Laredo. The gathered faithful joyfully cheered to welcome our new Bishop. Here are some highlights of today's Mass from Sales Auto Arena.

Solemn Vespers with Bishop Elect John Gomez

Before his Episcopal Ordination, a new bishop is required to make a public Profession of Faith and an Oath of Fidelity. This took place last night at San Agustin Cathedral during Solemn Vespers.

Today, June 30th at 2 pm, Bishop Elect Gomez will be ordained and installed as the new bishop for the Diocese of Laredo. Everyone is invited to Sames Auto Arena today to participate in this special Mass to witness this historic event and welcome our new bishop.
