A Joyful Noise
(How Can I Keep from Singing?)
Psalm 100
What do we do when we feel like the world is going to hell in a handbasket? How do we stay positive when there is so much heartbreak? These questions aren’t unique to our time and our place. Our ancestors in faith asked many of the same questions we are asking. Where is God in all of this? What can I do to make a difference? This Sunday is Kickoff Sunday as we celebrate the return of our regular schedules and programs at church. Both the chancel choir and bell choir will be back! We hope you’ll join us this Sunday as Pastor Curt preaches on making a joyful noise despite all the tumult in the world.

God Makes the Call
Exodus 3:1-15
Last Sunday at worship in the Park, Rev. Mollie and Pastor Curt shared their call stories, how they understand God’s work in their lives, and in particular, to ordained ministry. At the end of the story sermon, we were all invited to consider the call stories of our lives. This week, we will hear the call story of Moses, full of clear direction, burning bushes, and conversation with God. Sometimes the call from God is like Moses’, big and clear! And sometimes it’s more subtle, but still there. In every case, it is the Holy One, God, who makes the call, who extends the invitation to live a life following the ways of Jesus, in the Spirit. Join us this Sunday as Rev. Mollie preaches on call and the one who makes it.

Worship in the Park
Please join us for our very special Worship in the Park service this Sunday, August 23, at 10:15 am! On this Sunday, there will NOT be any services at Lakewood UCC or via livestream. We will meet at the pavilion at Prospect Park (44th Ave. & Robb St. in Wheat Ridge). Our special guest musician this year will be the former Director of Music Ministries, Allyson Koplen. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch and a camping chair if you’d like. Childcare will be available for those who need it. Hope to see you there!

Be Encouraged!
Matthew 14:22-33
This Sunday, we hear the story of Jesus walking on water, and, for a moment, Peter too! The lead up to the walking on water moment we find Jesus taking a break from teaching to the crowds, going to the mountain to pray, and facing a storm. As the disciples see Jesus walking on the sea, Jesus invites them to take heart, to not be afraid - he is with them! Culturally and individually, we are in the midst of many storms. Where do we find Christ’s presence in the midst of the storms, not despite them? How do we find encouragement, courage, and the ability to “take heart” in the midst of all we face? Join us in worship this Sunday as Rev. Mollie preaches, and we reflect together on God’s presence with us.

Taize Style Worship
Sunday, August 2, will be our annual Taizé-style worship service. Taizé worship is known for its simplicity of style. It uses short phrases, sung repeatedly, and periods of silence to draw us into the experience of finding God’s presence where we are. The Taizé community is an ecumenical monastic order in southern France founded in 1940, and is still a worshipping community with special opportunities for youth and young adults. We will also celebrate communion this Sunday. We hope you'll join us in worship as we sing, pray, and listen for God in the silence. Sarah Beirhaus will offer special music.

Rooted in Good Soil
Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
Join us in worship this Sunday as we hear the parable of the sower from the Gospel of Matthew. In this story, Jesus uses the device of parable telling to share with the crowds, and us today, about good soil, and the importance of being rooted in good soil. In 2026, we’re learning more about the importance of good, healthy soil to grow food, trees, and nurture other plants. The health of the soil is dependent on nurture, worms & insects, and water. The soils we take root in, including our faith life, are also dependent on nurture. Rev. Mollie is preaching as we are all invited to think about the ways we’re rooted in good soil, and how to keep nurturing that good soil.
