As residents of Indiana face extreme hardship in the wake of the Aug. 11 storms that caused flooding, widespread damage, and knocked out power for over two weeks for tens of thousands of people, we join our voices in prayer. God of refuge and strength, be near to those facing damaged homes, fallen trees, power outages, and uncertainty. Give strength to first responders, utility crews, volunteers, and neighbors working to keep communities safe and help with recovery.
Where inequity, indifference, and injustice have exacerbated suffering and slowed help and recovery, we pray for your peace and justice to come. Give us the courage to do our part in changing systems that harm and disadvantage any of your children.
May we continue to care for one another, check on our neighbors, and be the hands and feet of Christ in the days ahead.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.
