Today, hunger and homelessness remain and Mercy Teams "Meals of Mercy" continues.
While we serve fewer "missions" they all ask for more meals to feed over 18,000 individuals tracked as homeless in Multnomah Co. and an estimated 9,000 living entirely outdoors.
Today Mercy Teams finds it harder to collect the number of donated sack lunches and sandwiches we are committed to distributing each week.
We are fortunate to have access to financial support from generous donations and our parish outreach.
This allows us to purchase supplies and assemble sack lunches when we do not receive enough.
However, we believe that the act of assembling and donating sack lunches and sandwiches remains the essence of Mercy Teams; We are "teams of people serving others and performing small acts of mercy and kindness.
We believe that individuals, families, small groups, and large organizations receive so much back from serving others.
You become part of the solution, not for homelessness and hunger, but by letting those suffering know they are loved and respected.
As Fr. John Kerns stated in a recent letter to Friends of Mercy Teams:
"Perhaps God is calling you."
📆On Sunday, June 21st, dedicated volunteers will be collecting your donated sack lunches and sandwiches under our Mercy Teams tent.
