Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent MN Making God Visible 60 years ago this week a bunch of mostly 20-somethings started this church. What kind of church are we going to be? Amen.

They imagined a spiritual home where others could only see an orchard. They had no idea how this fledgling church would measure its giving to hunger causes someday in fractions of millions of dollars (almost half a million the past 15 years)

What kind of church are we going to make here? They were imagining the church we’re sitting in right now. A place we tell the sacre

d stories of our oneness in Christ (catholic). A place we gather to coax those stories out of one another because we are evangelical. Heritage week we celebrate this house of hope and gratitude, a house of healing and hospitality. This is a peace house, a sanctuary, in every sense of that word, and it is a house still under construction; it stands in need of everyone’s creative hand. It still is a cauldron of imagination where the fires of justice burn. A place that today moves people out the door with the shout “Go in peace. Serve the Lord” convinced that God needs us more in the world than in here. This is the calling and the joy of this community of faith. Old people, young people, all of us together.

Our prayers are with the family and friends of Vicki Otto who died on June 11, 2026. A graveside service will be held at the Prince of Peace Cemetery on Thursday, June 18 at 2pm. A Celebration of Life event will be held on Thursday, July 9, 3-6pm at the La Crescent Event Center. You are encouraged to wear your brightest colored clothing!

Synod Assembly is today and Prince of Peace has lots to be proud of and thankful for. Pastor Anna and Kendra Weiser were featured for their work with the Engaging Children's Initiative. They also had the most fun table, complete with 🫧 bubbles 🫧!! Our former bishop, Jim Arends, was honored for his 40 years of ordained ministry. Cyndy Reichgelt hosted the Migrant Justice Ministry table. Then we heard Bishop Malpica extol Cyndy and Kathy Rosenberg for their leadership of that synod ministry team. And retired Pastor Pat Ziems served as an assembly volunteer.
