A recent social media comment lamented that Donald Trump being president was robbing people of the ability to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
Honestly, replace Trump with Obama, Biden, Bush, or Clinton and the deeper issue remains the same.
Something has happened to us.
Politics has grown so large in our emotional and spiritual imagination that we increasingly struggle to enjoy anything together — holidays, sports, music, national symbols, even moments of shared achievement. Everything becomes filtered through grievance, resentment, and tribal suspicion.
And as Christians, that should concern us deeply, because Scripture treats gratitude not as an emotional luxury but as evidence of spiritual health.
