First Friends of Kokomo

We are a Quaker Meeting (church): A place where one is invited to explore questions of faith, where transformation is encouraged, and where one can be sent out as witnesses of Christ. Striving to Holy Spirit led, we sometimes depart from the printed format. Gathering in holy expectancy we text in holy obedience. (Psalm 122:1; Colossians 3:15-17)

Symbols - Because Quakers believe that the Living

Christ is truly preset and directly available, we hold that outward and visible signs of Christ's presence are nonessential. Thus, the Gathering Room is simple plain, unadorned by religious symbols. (Colossians 2:17)

Sacraments - Persuaded that God is an abiding Presence, we believe that any meal can be holy communion, and every day an immersion in God's love. If communion with or baptism by the Holy Spirit is real and inward, then outward forms are non-essential. Friends seek a real nurturing relationship with Christ within, without the elements. Becoming a viable member of Christ's Body is not based in ritual, but requires an inward spiritual transformation! (John 6:57-58; II Corinthians 5:17)

Stillness - Our "open worship" offers time to wait upon the Lord in stillness allowing for an exchange of communication between the Lord Jesus and ourselves. Confession, repentance, prayer and praise are often experienced as God's Spirit rises up within renewing our life in His kingdom. (Psalm 46:10; Isaiah 40:28-31; Acts 1:4; 2:1-2)

Ministry - Jesus Christ is the true Shepherd, and his Spirit may empower any person to proclaim His message during "open worship." All are encouraged to speak when led by the Holy Spirit! Moreover, all believers have been gifted and commissioned by the Holy Spirit to be a dynamic witness in the world.
