Sometimes we think what we need most is for the storm to go away. But Jesus doesn’t always calm the storm. Sometimes he teaches us to trust his presence within it. Because our hope isn’t ultimately in our ability to stay afloat. It’s in the mighty hand of Jesus reaching down to pull us into his gracious arms.

The people we most admire almost always have a deeply formative experience in a “wilderness”.

The new season of Practicing the Practices is available wherever you get your podcasts. #

Sometimes faith in the wilderness sounds less like certainty and more like: “God, I don’t know what You’re doing. I don’t even know if You’re listening. But I’m here.”

Sometimes the practice is simply staying postured toward God. That’s enough.

Season 5 of Practicing the Practices: Discipleship in the Wilderness is here. Listen, watch, and find resources at practicingthepractices.org.

What if the deepest hope of Christianity isn’t that Jesus keeps us out of the wilderness, but that He entered it Himself?

We follow a suffering Savior. A wilderness Savior. A God who is not distant from our pain, but entered into suffering, brokenness, and even death. When the wilderness comes, give me Jesus.

Season 5 of Practicing the Practices drops Tuesday, September 1st. Subscribe on Spotify, Apple, and YouTube.

The church isn’t merely a place we attend. It’s a people we belong to, and belonging means taking our place in the family.

Maybe your next step is joining a group. Maybe it’s serving on a ministry team. Maybe it’s simply moving from attending to engaging.

Find your place. Join in. Help someone else flourish.

The wilderness is an unavoidable part of following Jesus. Seasons of waiting, disappointment, limitation, silence, loss, confusion, and unmet expectations can leave us wondering where God is and what He is doing. But throughout Scripture, the wilderness is not merely a place to escape. It is often a place where God does some of His deepest work of formation.

Marriage is not a success story, it's a redemption story.

This Sunday, Rick and Teresa Dunn invited us to see marriage within the bigger story of what God is doing in us, through us, and between us.

You are not abandoned in the wilderness.

The wilderness is often where Jesus does some of His deepest formation.

Not all suffering is automatically formative. But some of God’s deepest work happens in places we would never choose: obscurity, waiting, disappointment, limitation, silence, failure, loss, confusion, unmet expectations—and even the collapse of the false self.

Many Christians have categories for victory, gifting, leadership, obedience, mission, and spiritual disciplines. But do we have categories for silence, grief, confusion, burnout, disappointment with God, spiritual numbness, or the loss of certainty?
What if these seasons aren’t interruptions to discipleship, but invitations to deeper discipleship with Jesus?

In Season 5 of Practicing the Practices, Casey and Brad explore Discipleship in the Wilderness: how we practice the way of Jesus when the path gets difficult, God seems quiet, and the old maps no longer seem to work.

Season 5 is coming September 1st. Subscribe to your favorite platform at www.practicingthepractices.org

We’re restocked with a supply of our new t-shirts. Inspired by the Staurogram, believed to be the earliest ancient symbol of discipleship, it captures our heart to Follow the Way of Jesus. This symbol appears in some of the oldest surviving Gospel manuscripts (c. AD 150-200), where early scribes combined the Greek letters tau (Τ) and rho (Ρ) inside the word stauros (“cross”) to form the image of a crucified man. It appears in Jesus’ words: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27).

We’ve also got Kids sizes available now. They are available for a $7 donation and can be picked up this weekend in the church lobby.
