🚨 I WILL ALWAYS STAND FOR OUR CHILDREN.
Cora was 5. Dawson was 3. Callan was 8 months old.
On January 24, 2023, in a basement in Duxbury, Massachusetts, their mother wrapped exercise bands around their necks and strangled them. Cora and Dawson died that night. Callan died three days later. Their dad came home from errands she sent him on and found his children on the floor.
That is not a rumor. That is what happened. Lindsay Clancy has not denied she did it. The trial was about whether she should be held responsible because of postpartum psychosis and mental illness. This week the jury could not agree. The judge declared a mistrial. The murder charges are still there. She is still in a psychiatric hospital. Those three children are still gone.
Mental illness is real. Postpartum suffering is real. A mother can be in a dark place and still need help before her children get hurt. Nobody is saying that pain isn’t real. What I will not accept is this: if a parent is sick enough, their children’s lives no longer matter. They do.
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalm 127:3
Cora, Dawson, and Callan were not a diagnosis. They were not a talking point. They were little kids with a God-given right to live.
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him… hands that shed innocent blood.” Proverbs 6:16–17
You can have compassion for a broken mind and still tell the truth. Being mentally ill does not give anyone a free pass to take their children’s lives. It may help explain how someone got there. It does not make what happened okay. It does not bring those babies back. And it does not take away our duty to protect children.
For years this country has been told that a child’s life can be set aside when an adult’s crisis or “choice” is more important. First it was the child in the womb. Now look how fast people rush to stand over three little bodies in a basement and talk mostly about the mother. That is not love. That is a culture that has already decided some lives can be thrown away.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.” Isaiah 5:20
If you are mentally ill and you have kids, hear me clearly. Your kids are not safer because people online have learned to make excuses for the unthinkable. They are safer when the adults around you tell the truth: you need help, and their lives are not yours to take. If you look at what happened to Cora, Dawson, and Callan and your first reaction is to defend what she did instead of standing up for those children, you have already shown what you think a child is worth. Kids should not be left with anyone who thinks murder can be explained away as long as you call it mental illness.
And to the women taking up for her: would you let her babysit your children when she gets out? In your house. With your baby. After what she did with those bands in that basement. If the answer is no, stop acting like nothing that bad happened. If the answer is yes, that says more about you than you think.
This is not hate for people who are sick. Sick people need real help, real treatment, truth, and Jesus. This is hate for a lie: that some children can be killed and the rest of us are supposed to stay quiet so we don’t sound harsh.
“Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8–9
“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it?” Proverbs 24:11–12
I will not be talked out of this. I will not trade three children so adults can feel better about themselves. I will not call it compassion when the smallest and most helpless are the ones who pay.
The devil has always hated children. Pharaoh did. Herod did. And every generation that learns to look the other way when little ones are destroyed does too. You don’t need every page of a medical file to know this: three children were supposed to live, they were killed, and we are not required to forget them so people can sound understanding.
“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 18:10
“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:6
I will not bow to a world that looks at strangled children and makes the person who killed them the main story. I will not treat innocent blood like a debate topic. I will not stay quiet while people say some lives can be taken if the child is small enough, and then explained after the fact.
Cora. Dawson. Callan. They deserved to live. I WILL ALWAYS STAND FOR OUR CHILDREN!
