Thank you to everyone who made the final journey to St Mark this afternoon for our farewell worship service. It's safe to say everyone who attended leaves with a deeper understanding of just how much this house of worship has meant to this community these last 76 years.

A special thanks to Bishop James Swanson and his wife Delphine for attending. We also want to thank Reverends Rae Mullins, Mark Huffine, and Doug Tweed -- all St Mark alums -- for taking part in worship. And a very special thanks to Rev Timothy Robinson, who is going to be coming to Mafair United Methodist Church in July.

The congregation of Mafair/St Mark thanks you all for a remarkable day!

The United Methodist Church celebrated its 57th birthday yesterday. The UMC, being the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church, joined together as one denomination on April 23, 1968, in Dallas, Texas.

And through the perspective of last month's merger of Mafair and St Mark, we invite you to watch this video from 1968. It's a wonderful reminder that through God, all things are made new.

Happy birthday, United Methodist Church!

(Thank you to Rev. Melissa Ricketts Malcolm from St St. Matthew UMC Kingsport, Emory UMC, and the Table ministry for sharing this.)

A glorious moment! As we celebrate the future ahead for Mafair United Methodist Church, this morning we had the opportunity to shout "Hosanna!" on this Palm Sunday. Today marks our final morning worship service at St. Mark. It was an opportunity to give thanks to God for 76 years in this sacred place, and also to praise God for new friendships and new possibilities for ministry.

A new thing is happening at Mafair United Methodist Church. Come be a part of it!

This Sunday, we will return to St. Mark for a celebration of Palm Sunday. This will be the final morning worship at St Mark. Worship begins at 11.

On the 18th, we will hold a service of Good Friday Tenebrae at St Mark. That begins at 7 p.m.

And finally, on Sunday, May 25th at 3, we will have a farewell service at St Mark. We are pleased to announce that former Holston Conference Bishop James Swanson will be the guest speaker, along with special music from the Mafair choir, Peggy Turner and Linda Isenberg, and others to be announced later.

Happy Easter from Mafair United Methodist Church!

With last week's merger between St Mark and Mafair United Methodist Church, our congregation begins the process of saying farewell to our Maple Street home -- a place we've worshipped together for 76 years.

Over the next two months, we will return to 929 Maple Street three more times: Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and our farewell service on Sunday, May 25 at 3 p.m. when former Holston Conference Bishop James Swanson will join us. You are invited to any of these services.

But as we say goodbye, we are asking for your help. We are looking for anything that you might have kept or collected over the years: old bulletins, photographs, anything that tells the story of St Mark United Methodist Church.

We would also love to hear your stories. We invite you to share your special memories of St Mark. If you would like to participate, please send your "St Mark Memories" to us via Facebook messenger or by emailing Pastor Jason at: [email protected]. We will post those on our page over the coming days.

We can't wait to hear your story!
