Sept 6, 2026 Puna Hongwanji Columbarium during the Fall Ohigan Service. If you are wondering this is our temporary altar until the altar returns from Japan. The altar was sent to Japan for restoration and repairs. During the inspection of the altar in Japan some pieces were damaged by the termites. We expect the altar to be returned way before our 125th Anniversary in 2027.

Before the day ends, Happy Minister Appreciation Day to our Puna/Pāhala/Nāʻālehu Hongwanji minister Reverend Satoshi Kaʻimipono Tomioka. Thank you for sharing the Dharma with us and sharing it so us lay people can understand the teachings. It’s amazing how you can find a video or song that matches your Dharma message. We appreciate all that you do.

Thank you to all the ministers as well. The Hawai’i Island ministers work extra hard as they don’t only have to take care of their main temple, but they cover other temples as well. We have 12 temples and five ministers to cover all the temples. Plus the distance between the temples adds up.

We appreciate the ministers for their dedication and commitment to share the Dharma. Namo Amida Butsu! 🙏🙏🙏

Our members and friends have been working really hard to unpack all the boxes and trying to sort through the items. There are many that have been working behind the scenes for months. On October 3 they unloaded all the items and now the task of opening up each box. People have been going to temple from 8 am - 2 pm daily to unpack and sort items. They get a break on Sunday. Next week will be the race to make it to the finish line. Please be very patient as these volunteers are tireless giving of their time to get the work done and be ready to welcome all of you on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 8 am - 12 noon.

Also a shout out needs to go to the cooking crew that are feeding the workers and preparing for the concession. A rummage sale is a huge task that takes many to help.
