What if loving your enemy is not a burden but a path to freedom? This week we explored Jesus' final "you have heard it was said" statement in Matthew 5:43-48, where He calls us to something far greater than tolerance -- He calls us to active, sacrificial love.

Like David in 1 Samuel 24, who had every opportunity to destroy Saul but chose mercy instead, we are invited to love without losing our convictions. You can pray for an enemy without agreeing with them. You can bless without copying. That is the narrow, freeing path of Christ.

God sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous alike (Matthew 5:45). His generosity toward those who oppose Him is our model. The better we love God, the better we can love even those who work against us.

Come worship with us and grow in the grace that makes this kind of love possible.

What if the most powerful response to being wronged was not getting even, but giving more? In Matthew 5:38-44, Jesus challenges the familiar principle of "an eye for an eye" -- not to abolish justice, but to call his followers to something far greater.

From Elisha feeding the very army sent to capture him (2 Kings 6) to Paul's words in Romans 12:17-21, Scripture consistently points us away from revenge and toward mercy. Getting even never brings peace. It only raises the stakes.

As 1 Peter 3:8-9 reminds us, the foundation for overcoming evil with good starts in how we treat one another -- with compassion, tenderness, and grace. We love this way because Christ first loved us this way, giving us far better than we deserve.

Join us as we continue through the Sermon on the Mount and discover what it looks like to live by the principles of the Kingdom.

Your word is your witness. In this week's sermon from Matthew 5, we explored what Jesus meant when he called his followers to let their yes mean yes and their no mean no. In a world flooded with half-truths and broken promises, God calls us to be people whose word can be trusted without an oath to back it up.

Psalm 15 reminds us that those who dwell with God are those who keep their commitments even when it hurts. From our baptism to our marriages to the small promises of daily life, faithfulness in our words reflects faithfulness to God.

Here is the challenge: if we want the world to trust the God we serve, we must be people who speak and live in truth. Who would trust a God whose people could not be trusted?
