On January 30, 1904 thirty men and women met in a small room in a house on the Northeast corner of 12th and Highland with one goal: the organization of a church. AME minister, Rev. Hawkins, with the guidance of Bishop Abram Grant, 19th Bishop of the AME Church, organized this new church. A charter group of members held their first worship service the next day, January 31, in the same room. Bishop

Grant named the the new church Ward Chapel AME. This naming recognized the rigorous work done by Bishop Thomas H.D. Ward in organizing churches west of the Mississippi River. Ward Chapel was admitted to the connection in the North Missouri Annual Conference on September 28 that same year. On Sunday, August 18, 1929, Ward moved into 2126 Prospect, her present location, having outgrown her former location at 1120 Woodland.

The preachers PREACHED and the spirit of the LORD filled the house and revived our souls again! Special thanks to each preacher, their members and the great members of WCCG.
