The Lord’s Day gathering is one of the most formative rhythms in the life of a Christian. Every part of the gathering is intentional. We sing, pray, read the Word, hear the Word preached, confess our sin, receive assurance, come to the Lord’s Table, fellowship, and encourage one another. God uses these ordinary means of grace, week after week, to shape us into the image of Christ.

Church is not simply an event we attend. It is a people we covenant with, worship with, and are formed alongside.

If you are not currently part of a healthy, vibrant, intentional local church, we would love for you to visit with us this Lord’s Day at Twelve 5 Church.

Does baptism wash away your sins?

Acts 22:16 seems to say exactly that:

“Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.”

So what do we do with this verse?

Do we minimize baptism to protect justification by faith alone? Or does baptism actually become the means by which our sins are forgiven?

This morning we are going to deal with the text head-on.

The Lord’s Day gathering should be one of the things we as Christians look forward to most throughout the week. It is the day when the people of God come together to encourage and challenge one another, to worship God through singing, Scripture, prayer, fellowship, and the proclamation of His Word. It is a day for our minds to be renewed by His truth, for our hearts to be reminded again of the gospel of grace, and for the church to partake together of the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

The gathering of the church is one of the ordinary means of grace God has appointed for the strengthening, nourishing, and maturing of His people. Because of that, we should not approach the Lord’s Day casually. Sunday morning should not be something we haphazardly wake up for and then decide whether or not we are going to attend, or even attending but doing so in a way that is not intentional. It is something we should prepare ourselves for.

In many ways, that preparation should take place throughout the entire week, but especially on Saturday evening. That may mean saying no to staying out late, putting away distractions earlier than usual, getting the children ready beforehand, or spending some time in prayer and Scripture before going to bed. Not because there is anything meritorious in doing those things, but because we recognize the weight and privilege of what awaits us.

Tomorrow, the saints gather. The Word will be opened. The gospel will be proclaimed. The church will sing. We will pray, fellowship, and come together to the Table. So spend the evening preparing your heart to worship God with His gathered people, the church.

Who determines the extent of its authority?

Join us tomorrow night at 6:30 PM as we continue our study through the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, focusing on Chapter 24: Civil Government.
We’ll examine what Scripture teaches, compare the similarities and key differences between the Westminster Confession and the 1689 Baptist Confession, and consider why the Baptist framers intentionally departed from the Presbyterian position in several important areas.

What does spiritual warfare actually look like?

Many imagine it as political activism, culture wars, angry arguments, or public demonstrations. But when we come to Acts 19, we find something remarkably different.

As the gospel spreads through Ephesus, one of the greatest pagan strongholds in the Roman Empire, idols begin to fall, economies are disrupted, and an entire city erupts into chaos. Yet the church never advances through violence, intimidation, or worldly tactics. Instead, Christ wages war through a Spirit-filled people who faithfully proclaim the gospel, exercise wisdom and restraint, and maintain a blameless witness before the world.
