Covenant Presbyterian is a closely-knit community church who gather in central Johnson City to worship, teach, learn and share our lives. May 2026 Solar installation and savings

Covenant, after significant study and discussion regarding installation, financing, options, energy savings, and pledged support, installed a solar collection system on the roof that became fully operational in March 2026!

By mid-April, the system had already generated 1300 kilowatt-hours. Trying to understand what that means in perspective: last year in April of 2025, Covenant used a total of 2,080 kilowatt-hours for the month. So, in two and a half weeks, Covenant’s solar system has generated roughly 60% of April’s energy. Now some months obviously run higher than others (April is pretty temperate and we’ve had some beautiful, sunny days), but overall generating 1300 kWh is a great start!

That is equivalent to saving 37 gallons of gas (something we all have our eye on right now), and it’s a carbon offset equal to planting 48 trees! Covenant’s environmental impact (and electric bill savings) will grow over time, like seeds planted in good spring soil!
