Mini Devo: Put Off the Old, Put On the New

Scripture: Ephesians 4:17-32 (KJV)

Key Verse

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” — Ephesians 4:32

Devotional Thought

Have you ever outgrown a favorite shirt or pair of shoes? There comes a time when you have to take off the old because it no longer fits who you are.

Paul tells believers that following Jesus means taking off the “old man”—the sinful habits, attitudes, and behaviors that once controlled us—and putting on the “new man,” which reflects Christ.

For teens, this can be difficult because the world constantly pressures you to fit in. Friends may gossip. Social media may encourage comparison and anger. Culture may tell you to do whatever feels good. But God calls you to something greater.

Paul gives some practical examples:

* Stop lying and tell the truth.
* Don’t let anger control you.
* Work hard and help others.
* Use words that build people up instead of tearing them down.
* Get rid of bitterness, wrath, and malice.
* Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving.

Following Jesus isn’t just about what you stop doing—it’s about becoming someone different. The Holy Spirit is working in you to make you more like Christ every day.

The question isn’t, “How close can I get to sin?” The question is, “How much can my life look like Jesus?”

Application

Ask yourself:

* Are my words building people up or tearing them down?
* Is there someone I need to forgive?
* What old habit or attitude do I need to give to God?
* Does my life look different because I follow Jesus?

Challenge

Today, choose one area from Ephesians 4:17-32 that you need to surrender to God. Pray and ask Him to help you take off the old and put on the new.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for saving me and making me a new creation. Help me put away sinful attitudes and actions. Fill me with kindness, truth, forgiveness, and love. Let my words and actions reflect Jesus so others can see You through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember: You can’t wear the old life and the new life at the same time. Choose daily to put on Christ.

Mini Devo: Do Something About It

Scripture: “Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.” — Isaiah 1:17 (KJV)

Thought

It is easy to see problems in the world and think, “Someone should do something about that.” But Isaiah 1:17 reminds us that God calls His people to be the ones who step up and make a difference.

Notice that the verse begins with “Learn to do well.” Doing what is right does not always come naturally. It takes intentional effort. We learn by spending time in God’s Word, listening to His voice, and putting our faith into action.

God then gives specific examples:

* Seek justice when others are treated unfairly.
* Help the oppressed when someone is hurting or being mistreated.
* Care for the fatherless and vulnerable who may feel forgotten.
* Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

As teenagers, you may think you are too young to make an impact, but God can use you right where you are. A kind word, standing up for someone being bullied, helping a friend through a difficult season, or serving in your church can all be ways to live out Isaiah 1:17.

Christianity is more than attending church—it is allowing God’s love to flow through us to others.

Challenge

This week, look for one person who needs encouragement, help, or someone to stand beside them. Don’t just notice the need—do something about it.

Prayer

Lord, help me to see people the way You see them. Teach me to do what is right, stand up for those who are hurting, and be a light in my school, home, and community. Use me to make a difference for Your glory. Amen.

Make It Matter: Don’t just talk about your faith—live it. Someone may need to see Jesus through you today.

🖤 MINI DEVO 🖤
📖 Philippians 2:5

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

Jesus had every right to hold onto His glory, power, and position… but instead, He chose humility. He chose obedience. He chose love.

As followers of Christ, we are called to have the same mindset. That means putting others before ourselves, serving when it’s hard, loving when it’s inconvenient, and staying humble even when pride wants to take over.

Today, ask yourself:
➡️ Am I reflecting the heart of Jesus in the way I treat others?

Challenge for today:
Find one intentional way to serve someone without expecting anything in return.
