We took time to celebrate our Shepherd Community Academy students during one of our favorite traditions, the Annual End of Year Recognition Parade.

Due to the poor weather, we had to keep it inside, but parents, staff, and volunteers all came together to celebrate the growth of every student from Pre-K to 5th Grade grads.

We believe every child deserves a future, and that future is made possible through a quality education.

Stories of transformation were celebrated at our recent Work Life graduation ceremony.

Over the past 11 weeks, participants have developed workplace and life skills, explored entrepreneurship, and prepared for new opportunities.

Four graduates are now launching their own businesses with the support of startup grants and ongoing coaching from Shepherd.

We are honored to walk alongside our neighbors as they build new opportunities for themselves, their families, and our community.

Shepherd Community Academy students smiled, ran and laughed their way through Field Day last week.

Monday our Pre-K students celebrated, and Tuesday brought fun for both lower and upper elementary students as we head into a week filled with awards, graduations, and the start of summer break.

Moments like these are possible because of the support of our community. We’re grateful for partners like Ironworkers Local Union No. 22, whose generous donations help create opportunities, celebrations, and lasting memories for our students and families.

During Shepherd Academy Teacher Appreciation Week, a few of our amazing moms offered to bring snacks for our staff, and surprised us with an entire meal.

As they served lunch, one mom shared, “We love all you do for our kids,” while another said, “You guys work hard and love our kids. We appreciate what you do for our families.”

We are so thankful for these incredible women who serve on our Parent Support Team and for the encouragement they pour into our staff and school community.

Employment has always been a challenge for our neighbors.

Often, it isn’t a lack of willingness to work, but other barriers that get in the way: education, language differences, childcare, the ability to advocate and ask questions, interview skills, social skills, and more.

That’s where Shepherd steps in to offer education, full-time childcare, training or certification courses, or simply connect them with our “network” of employers looking to hire.

In our newest blog, we share how Shepherd comes alongside neighbors through job support, education, recovery programs, childcare, financial coaching, and relationships that help break cycles of poverty for good.
