How can we connect with God? Father Nathan offers some thoughts as we anticipate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit connected with Jesus' apostles. Check it out on YouTube.

Father Nathan explains centering prayer

A recent fire at the Briarwood Square apartment community displaced ten families, including children, leaving many without homes and with the loss of nearly all of their belongings. As these families begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives, members of our community have asked how they can help.

Several of the affected households have created wish lists with urgently needed items, and we have gathered those links together on our website so they can be easily accessed and updated as needs change. Every donation, share, and act of support makes a meaningful difference.

For those looking for additional information about the fire, we will also be sharing news articles and video coverage in the comments of this post.

St. Wilfrid's was pleased to welcome guest preacher Rev. Stefanie Wilson this morning. Her sermon, which connected some of today's issues of doubt, darkness and questioning to Nicodemus' struggles, was thought-provoking and inspiring. Her warm, enthusiastic spirit was an additional gift to us all. Thank you, Rev. Stefanie!

Warm thanks and Ramadan Mubarak to our friends at the Pacifica Institute, who hosted an iftar dinner at St. Wilfrid's tonight. They treated us to wonderful food, sparkling conversation, a beautiful intercultural/interfaith exchange and wonderful ties of fellowship.

Jesus tells us "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20) Here, three friends gathered at the greeters' table on the first Sunday in Lent represent the spirit of community and fellowship that's a vital part of Christian life. Join us, please! We welcome you, we need you, and WE WANT YOU.

Lent--the 40 days of fasting, prayer, penitence and preparation that precede Easter--has begun. Formalized in the fourth century following the Council of Nicaea, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and prepares us to look toward Christ's resurrection. The imposition of ashes, which began during the papacy of Gregory I, is a visible reminder of our mortality and repentance.

The community is invited to join us this evening at 7:00 p.m. for a choral eucharist and imposition of ashes in the sanctuary. We wish you a blessed and meaningful Lent.
