Mateo 16, 24-28
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “El que quiera venir conmigo, que renuncie a sí mismo, que tome su cruz y me siga. Pues el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mí, la encontrará. ¿De qué le sirve a uno ganar el mundo entero, si pierde su vida? ¿Y qué podrá dar uno a cambio para recobrarla?

Porque el Hijo del hombre ha de venir rodeado de la gloria de su Padre, en compañía de sus ángeles, y entonces dará a cada uno lo que merecen sus obras.

Yo les aseguro que algunos de los aquí presentes no morirán, sin haber visto primero llegar al Hijo del hombre como rey’’.

Friday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Matthew 16:24-28
Jesus said to his disciples,
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world
and forfeit his life?
Or what can one give in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory,
and then he will repay each according to his conduct.
Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here
who will not taste death
until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

Fiesta de la Transfiguración del Señor

Mateo 17, 1-9
En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, el hermano de éste, y los hizo subir a solas con él a un monte elevado. Ahí se transfiguró en su presencia: su rostro se puso resplandeciente como el sol y sus vestiduras se volvieron blancas como la nieve. De pronto aparecieron ante ellos Moisés y Elías, conversando con Jesús.

Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: "Señor, ¡qué bueno sería quedarnos aquí! Si quieres, haremos aquí tres chozas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías".

Cuando aún estaba hablando, una nube luminosa los cubrió y de ella salió una voz que decía: "Éste es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo puestas mis complacencias; escúchenlo". Al oír esto, los discípulos cayeron rostro en tierra, llenos de un gran temor. Jesús se acercó a ellos, los tocó y les dijo: "Levántense y no teman". Alzando entonces los ojos, ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús.

Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les ordenó: "No le cuenten a nadie lo que han visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre haya resucitado de entre los mu***os".

Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Matthew 17:1-9
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Wednesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time

And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out,
“Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David!
My daughter is tormented by a demon.”
But he did not say a word in answer to her.
His disciples came and asked him,
“Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”
He said in reply,
“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”
He said in reply,
“It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps
that fall from the table of their masters.”
Then Jesus said to her in reply,
“O woman, great is your faith!
Let it be done for you as you wish.”
And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Miércoles de la XVIII semana del Tiempo ordinario

Mateo 15, 21-28
En aquel tiempo, Jesús se retiró a la comarca de Tiro y Sidón. Entonces una mujer cananea le salió al encuentro y se puso a gritar: “Señor, hijo de David, ten compasión de mí. Mi hija está terriblemente atormentada por un demonio”. Jesús no le contestó una sola palabra; pero los discípulos se acercaron y le rogaban: “Atiéndela, porque viene gritando detrás de nosotros”. Él les contestó: “Yo no he sido enviado sino a las ovejas descarriadas de la casa de Israel”.

Ella se acercó entonces a Jesús y postrada ante él, le dijo: “¡Señor, ayúdame!” El le respondió: “No está bien quitarles el pan a los hijos para echárselo a los perritos”. Pero ella replicó: “Es cierto, Señor; pero también los perritos se comen las migajas que caen de la mesa de sus amos”. Entonces Jesús le respondió: “Mujer, ¡qué grande es tu fe! Que se cumpla lo que deseas”. Y en aquel mismo instante quedó curada su hija.

ORACIÓN DEL MEDIODÍA

HIMNO

¿Qué tengo yo, que mi amistad procuras?
¿Qué interés se te sigue, Jesús mío,
que a mi puerta, cubierto de rocío,
pasas las noches del invierno a oscuras?

¡Oh, cuánto fueron mis entrañas duras,
pues no te abrí!; ¡qué extraño desvarío,
si de mi ingratitud el hielo frío
secó las llagas de tus plantas puras!

Cuantas veces el ángel me decía:
"Alma, asómate ahora a la ventana,
verás con cuanto amor llamar porfía"!

¡Y cuántas, hermosura soberana:
"Mañana le abriremos", respondía,
para lo mismo responder mañana!

Gloria al Padre, y al Hijo, y al Espíritu,
Por los siglos de los siglos. Amén

Lunes de la XVIII semana del Tiempo ordinario

Mateo 14, 22-36
En aquel tiempo, inmediatamente después de la multiplicación de los panes, Jesús hizo que sus discípulos subieran a la barca y se dirigieran a la otra orilla, mientras él despedía a la gente. Después de despedirla, subió al monte a solas para orar. Llegada la noche, estaba él solo allí.

Entre tanto, la barca iba ya muy lejos de la costa y las olas la sacudían, porque el viento era contrario. A la madrugada, Jesús fue hacia ellos, caminando sobre el agua. Los discípulos, al verlo andar sobre el agua, se espantaron y decían: “¡Es un fantasma!” Y daban gritos de terror. Pero Jesús les dijo enseguida: “Tranquilícense y no teman. Soy yo”.

Entonces le dijo Pedro: “Señor, si eres tú, mándame ir a ti caminando sobre el agua”. Jesús le contestó: “Ven”. Pedro bajó de la barca y comenzó a caminar sobre el agua hacia Jesús; pero al sentir la fuerza del viento, le entró miedo, comenzó a hundirse y gritó: “¡Sálvame, Señor!” Inmediatamente Jesús le tendió la mano, lo sostuvo y le dijo: “Hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué dudaste?”

En cuanto subieron a la barca, el viento se calmó. Los que estaban en la barca se postraron ante Jesús, diciendo: “Verdaderamente tú eres el Hijo de Dios”.

Terminada la travesía, llegaron a Genesaret. Apenas lo reconocieron los habitantes de aquel lugar, pregonaron la noticia por toda la región y le trajeron a todos los enfermos. Le pedían que los dejara tocar siquiera el borde de su manto; y cuantos lo tocaron, quedaron curados.
