Trinity-Downtown Trinity Downtown is a diverse Christian community in the heart of Houston that follows Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

We offer a traditional Sunday worship service at 9:00 am and a contemporary worship service at 11:15am on Sunday morning in the Sanctuary. Both worship services are live streamed on Trinity's YouTube channel at TrinitydowntownHTX, and are also available on demand by going to https://www.trinitydt.org/worship-online/

Trinity has an active youth ministry for middle and high school students, and we serve those experiencing homelessness in our community by providing sack lunches Monday-Friday and holding several meals for those in need throughout the year.

You've seen it on gym walls, coffee mugs, and the backs of team T-shirts: "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." It has become the Bible's official pregame speech. Jesus as the ultimate performance enhancer.

There's just one problem. Paul wasn't talking about winning anything.

Paul is writing under house arrest, waiting on a verdict that could cost him his life. It's going hungry without coming apart. It's having plenty without being owned by it. It's being content.

Most of us live somewhere between "not enough" and "never enough." Paul says there's a secret that frees you from both. And he says he learned it, which means it can be learned.

This Sunday we're in Philippians 4:4-13: rejoice always, don't be anxious about anything, think on whatever is true. And the secret Paul found in chains.

In Paul's day, believers in Rome quarreled over whether to eat meat at all. Those who ate looked down on those who didn't, and those who didn't judged those who did. Sound familiar? Around here, the one skipping the brisket might be the one getting the side-eye.

Picture wandering into someone else's barbecue joint and telling the pitmaster's crew how to trim the brisket. You'd get a long look and a "Mister, I answer to one man, and he's standing right over there."

Every believer answers to the Lord, not to us, and "he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand" (Romans 14:4). Paul goes on to say, "For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's" (Romans 14:8).

This Sunday we conclude our summer in Romans with 14:1–12. Come discover the freedom of welcoming others as Christ has welcomed you. Save a seat for someone, whether they love brisket or not.
