On this day in 1850, Adoniram Judson died at sea in the Bay of Bengal.
After decades of exhausting missionary work in Burma, Judson was suffering from severe lung disease, and doctors prescribed a sea voyage as his only hope for recovery. But on April 12, 1850, far from home, family, and the people he loved, he passed away aboard ship.
That evening, in silence, his body was committed to the ocean. No crowd. No monument. Just a life poured out for the gospel.
He and his wife, Ann Judson, had endured immense suffering to bring the Word of God to Burma, translating the Bible and laying the foundation for a movement that would impact generations.
