Our mission statement is simple: Each One Reach One. Information about all our work throughout the Hawaiian Islands can be found on our website: www.HawaiiSDA.com. The Hawaii Conference is the regional headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church serving all of the Hawaiian Islands. To share some of our history — The work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Hawaiian Islands was begun in

1884 by two literature evangelists, Abraham LaRue and William Scott. In 1907, the first church, a tiny 28x40 ft., white frame building on Kinau Street in Honolulu, was built. Since then, the Adventist mission has grown to 28 churches, 11 schools, 2 camps, and 1 hospital spread throughout the Hawaiian Islands. To share our beliefs — Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as the only source of our beliefs. We consider our movement to be the result of the Protestant conviction Sola Scriptura — the Bible as the only standard of faith and practice for Christians. Over the years, our church has agreed upon key statements that summarize the principal teachings Seventh-day Adventists understand from the scriptures. These statements are made collectively by a group of scholars studying and prayerfully searching the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit. Currently, Adventists hold 28 fundamental beliefs that can be organized into six doctrines: the doctrines of God, man, salvation, the church, the Christian life and last things. In each teaching, God is the architect, who in wisdom, grace and infinite love, is restoring a relationship with humanity that will last for eternity. For more information on these beliefs and Adventist 28 fundamental beliefs please visit Adventist.org. Hawaii’s paradise truly is a microcosm of heaven’s paradise. Why not personally visit us and experience these oceans of aloha?

HAWAIʻI CONFERENCE LEADERSHIP UPDATE

During our recent Executive Committee meeting, Pastor Erik VanDenburgh officially resigned as
President of the Hawaiʻi Conference due to his newly elected role as the Vice President of Administration and Secretary for the North Pacific Union Conference. Pastor VanDenburgh
expressed his gratitude for the privilege of serving and ministering in Hawaiʻi for the past 12 years. We are deeply grateful for his leadership, ministry, and commitment to our Conference ʻohana.

In alignment with our Hawaii Conference Bylaws, Pacific Union Conference President Pastor Marc Woodson has assumed the role of Executive Committee chair and is guiding the process
of selecting our next Conference President. During this transition, the Executive Committee voted Pastor Meshach Soli to serve as Interim President.

Above all, we want this season to be covered in prayer. Every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., we invite our entire Hawaiʻi Conference ʻohana to pause wherever you are and pray together for
God’s wisdom, unity, and direction.

Please continue to keep Pastor Erik and his family, our leaders, churches, and Conference in
prayer as we move forward together in faith.

HONOLULU, HAWAIʻI — August 23, 2026 — The Hawaiʻi Conference of Seventh-day Adventists celebrates with gratitude the faithful ministry of Pastor Erik VanDenburgh, who has been elected to serve as Vice President for Administration and Secretary of the North Pacific Union Conference during its 2026 Constituency Session.

Pastor VanDenburgh has faithfully served the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hawaiʻi first by investing seven and a half years into the next generation through his leadership as Youth Director and for the past four and a half years, serving as President of the Hawaiʻi Conference.

Throughout his ministry in the islands, Pastor VanDenburgh has demonstrated a deep love for people, a commitment to the local church, and a passion for advancing the mission of Jesus throughout Hawaiʻi. His leadership has helped strengthen pastors, educators, churches, schools, ministries, and communities across the Conference while encouraging a continued focus on reaching people with the Everlasting Gospel.

Among his many contributions, Pastor VanDenburgh has been instrumental in renovation projects and improvements at Camp Waianae, helping to strengthen this vital ministry space for generations to come. Pastor Erik played a key role in coordinating hands on support and assistance for residents and communities impacted by the devastating Lahaina fires, helping mobilize the Conference’s response during a time of tremendous need. He has also provided meaningful leadership in strengthening the Conference’s financial position while helping initiate important conversations focused on long-term sustainability and greater support for all Conference employees.

The Hawaiʻi Conference is also deeply grateful for the VanDenburgh family and the many ways they have shared in ministry alongside Pastor Erik.

While this transition brings a season of change for our Conference, it is also an opportunity to celebrate what God has accomplished through Pastor VanDenburgh’s leadership and to support him as God calls him into a new area of service.

On behalf of the Hawaiʻi Conference family, we extend our heartfelt Mahalo to Pastor Erik VanDenburgh, Jana, Jacob, Joel, and Jaben for their faithful service, friendship, leadership, and commitment to the mission of the Church in Hawaiʻi.

We pray God’s continued blessing over Pastor VanDenburgh as he begins this new chapter of ministry with the North Pacific Union Conference. You will be greatly missed.

Our Conference Executive Committee will meet on August 30th, 2026 to thank Pastor Erik and start discussing the process and plans for this next season of new leadership in accordance with our bylaws.

Mahalo, Pastor Erik and family, for faithfully serving Hawaiʻi.
