Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak!

According to ISNA and other Islamic sources, Ramadan for the year 2025 begins tonight, lasts for 29 days, and ends at sundown on Saturday, March 29. Therefore, the first Tarawih prayer will be tonight, and the first day of Ramadan will be tomorrow, March 1, 2025.

Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be on Sunday, March 30, though the actual date may change based on moon sighting.

We will hold Iftar and Dinner gatherings every Saturday during Ramadan, inshAllah.

Tarawih prayers will be held daily, led by Dr. Mouhamed Kannass, as in previous years, inshAllah.

Please join us at 5:50 PM for Iftar, as we need a few minutes to organize food and drinks.

Feel free to bring food to share with others. All gatherings will be potluck style. Your presence matters most, so don't worry if you can't get food or drink. InshAllah, our community members and mosque will provide enough for everyone.

Here is the schedule for the gatherings:
Iftar and Dinner: Every Saturday during Ramadan, Time: 5:50 PM
Tarawih Prayer: Every day during Ramadan, Time: 7:45 PM

Location: 688 Kinoole St, Unit 101, Hilo, HI 96720. You can park in the front or back of the building. There is also plenty of customer and street parking. The location is also wheelchair accessible.

The outside gate of the building will be locked at 6:30 PM. Please call 808-747-4642, 808-315-2727, or 916-396-4658 so someone can open the door for you.

A common question we receive is where to find halal meat. Here is a quick list of places that may offer it. Supply varies, so best to call before going to make sure it is in stock. If you have any others to add, please comment below.

Big Island:
Safeway- 1 pound halal hamburger
KTA-Frozen halal chicken (rare to find)
Cost U Less-Frozen halal steak, lamb, goat and hamburger

Oahu:
Indian Market-Various halal meats. Stock varies and are limited.

I would like to invite you to join the Tarawa prayer, Ifter/Dinner, Eid Prayer, and Eid Celebration/Gathering.

1. Tarawih Prayer: Please join the Tarawa prayer at 8.00 pm. Please come a few minutes early and call 808-909-3340 if you find the outside getting locked. Mosque Address: 688 Kinoole st, Unit 101, Hilo, HI 96720.

2. Ifter/Dinner: We will have Ifter/Dinner gathering on Saturday and Sunday during the month of Ramadan like the previous year. Please join us at 6.15 pm. Place: 688 Kinoole st, Unit 101, Hilo, HI 96720

3. Eid-ul-Fitr Prayer will be on Saturday, April 22, 2023 (based on moonsighting), at 9.00 am. The khutbah starts at 9.15 am, Place: 688 Kinoole st, Unit 101, Hilo, HI 96720

4. Eid Celebration/Gathering and Lunch: Saturday, April 22, 2023, or Sunday, April 23, 2023. Place: we will let you know later. There will be some fun activities and gifts for kids and adults. Please bring an extra outfit so that you can play games or have fun.

I want to let you know that these gatherings are a pot-luck format event. Feel free to bring a dish or two to share with others, if you want. Please bring your family and kids. Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Assalamu'alaikum.
Just to let you know that the Church of Holy Cross has cancelled/suspended today all in-person prayers or gatherings on their property due to the recent COVID-19 spike in Hawaii. So, we will not be able to restart our Jummah prayer now. I am very sad to let you know this news. I will let you know when we can restart our prayers and gatherings, isshAllah. My heart is bleeding. In fact, we need to pray even more during this difficult time. Please pray at home, stay safe, and keep us in your prayers. May Allah save us all from this pandemic.
