Love Boldly, Serve Joyfully and Lead Courageously Lower United Methodist Church is steeped in history. The Baptists and Methodists began to use it. Come join us.

It began its life in 1650 as the “Lower Chapel” for the Protestant Episcopal Church of England. The chapel was replaced by the present brick sanctuary in 1717. It still retains many of its colonial features such as its original hipped roof of which very few exist today. The church survived the Revolutionary War despite being abandoned by the parish. Robert Healy helped the Methodists obtain it from the parish in 1857 and here we have remained. We thank our forefathers for our history, but we know that a church is just a building without loving and caring people who want it to grow. Our true heritage is our people who, past and present, have opened their arms in welcome and caring.

From bread baking and beautiful seasonal arrangements to learning ways to care for ourselves, our Gather & Grow Fall Series has brought wonderful moments of learning, laughter, and connection to Lower Church!

An All Saints Evening of Remembrance

Some people leave a light in our lives that never goes out. ❤️
Join us for a beautiful evening of remembrance as we gather under the evening sky to honor those we have loved and lost.
Through music, Scripture, and prayer, we will give thanks for the lives that have touched our hearts and the memories that remain.
🔔 Speak Their Names
Everyone will be invited to speak the name of someone they wish to remember. As each name is spoken, bells will ring in their honor. Whether your loss was this year or many years ago, every name matters.
🕯️ Lighting the Cemetery
Following our time of remembrance, luminaries will slowly be lit beside every tombstone, filling the cemetery with hundreds of glowing lights—a beautiful tribute to the lives, love, and memories that remain.
This evening is open to EVERYONE in our community. You do not have to be a member of Lower Church, and your loved one does not have to be buried here.
There is no time limit on grief, and no expiration date on love.
✨ Come remember. Give thanks. Carry their light.
