Thursday fun at Camp Good Shepherd! We started the day off with Divine Liturgy and had our evening Glendi! One more day of summer camp!

CGSVA 26 campers participated in all types of thrilling activities this past Wednesday. Campers learned about Christ being the Light of the World. They also participated in a camp wide scavenger hunt, and learned about the preparations that go into the Divine Liturgy.

Camp Good Shepherd Virginia was blessed to welcome our Chief Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey to ourcamp Tuesday evening. It was the first time in the history of the camp that a current Metropolitan visited the camp. He was greeted by the Camp Director the Rev. Fr. Thomas Manuel, and by the Metropolis Youth Director The V. Rev. Fr. Symeon Williams. His Eminence enjoyed an evening of Saint Skits, where camper cabins each picked a patron saint for their cabin, and acted out their life story. His Eminence spoke to the children on the origin of the word “Christians” and gave His paternal blessing to all campers and staff.

Campers also participated in a CGS VA first time event known as the CGS 500, a relay race throughout the entire camp! Campers also began to learn about the Gospel of John, specifically beginning with Creation.

Opening day of CGSVA 26 was a rousing success! Campers were welcomed by staff members and began the week with an Agiasmo (blessing of the waters) service throughout the entire camp. Campers were then treated to a great evening of ice-breakers, a campfire, and s’mores! We look forward to much more fun to come through the week!

Meet Camp Good Shepherd Virginia 2026 staff member Christopher Hall!

Christopher Hall is a graduate of James Madison University (JMU) with a Bachelor's of Music with a concentration in composition in Spring of 2026. He was born into the Orthodox Church, being baptized in 2004 at St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA. Since than he has spent most of his childhood and all throughout high school as an alter server. When he got to university, he became an active member in his campus Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) eventually becoming president. Through the grace of God, during his Presidency, the JMU OCF doubled in active membership, organized their first hierarchical visit, and became a Christ centered family at JMU. However, he is most proud of becoming a sponsor for a student two years younger in the JMU OCF who now, through the grace of God, has become the newly elected vice president of JMU OCF. Now Christopher hopes to continue the work done in the JMU OCF by going to Hellenic College Holy Cross to pursue his Masters of Divinity.

Hey everyone!! My name is Theodora. I live in Richmond, VA and I just graduated from Patrick Henry High School and will be attending William and Mary in the fall. I’ve been going to camp for six years and I’m so excited to be a CIT this year! I’m most excited to reconnect with old friends and meet new people!!
