Be prepared to answer MISCONCEPTION #4 with scripture:

“tongues are a true sign of genuine salvation and proof someone has been filled with the Spirit.” (True or false and why)

Where exactly are the spiritual gifts found in scripture and what are their functions? Are all still in existence today or did some cease after the apostolic age?

This Sunday we will go through all of the gifts listed in scripture and talk about the functionality of each one and marvel at the diversity in how God orchestrates the use of them for the building up of the church and His own glory.

This Sunday we are attempting to venture into these questions…..

What is a Continuationist? What is a Cessationist? Are tongues a known dialect? How do we “test” if tongues are real or just gibberish? Do all get the same gifts? What IS the purpose of spiritual gifts? What do we see so much abuse and division in some cases? What is the greatest gift we should pursue?

This Sunday we will begin The Holy Spirit’s Work In The NT (or church age)!

Most people want to go right to “spiritual gifts” but we cannot overlook the vast and broad discussion of the Spirit’s work beyond “gifts.” We will begin to venture into the gifts, but importantly discuss through the text why obsessing over “gifts” many times leads to church division and outright sinful and blasphemous behavior that “misrepresents” the Spirit’s work.

Tomorrow we will be looking at the “limited role” the Holy Spirit had in the OT. Fully active but mainly fell upon certain individuals for a specific unique calling that needed spiritual power. Kings-Priests-Prophets which all were only a type of a greater to come who would be full of God’s power like no other. CHRIST.

We also will be given Misconception #1 test quiz…😜😂 “Is the Holy Spirit a person or a force?” Prove your answer by chapter/ verse and explanation! Let’s go!!!

Tomorrow we begin a 12 week series on The Holy Spirit’s Role and Work throughout scripture. We will break down 5 major categories of the Spirit’s work.

We will also cover some misconceptions. Is it The Holy Spirit that gives me “goosebumps”? Is the Spirit a “force” or a Person? If I’m full of the Spirit should I act weird and have uncontrollable fits? Am I not “full” of the Spirit if I don’t speak in tongues? Etc.

Bring all your thoughts and questions and please feel free to share.

Tomorrow’s class is an Introduction and Scriptural Basis and The Holy Spirit “empowers.”

For anyone desiring to sign up for the next Sunday School class April 19 on “The Role, Work, And Misconceptions Of The Holy Spirit” here is a brief outline on what to expect. We cannot cover every issue in scripture regarding the HS, but we will give a broad overview of His work! We will also try and cover a “misconception” briefly every class.
