Cooking Camp - Last Day/Competition Finale

Congratulations to our 2026 Cooking Camp CHAMPIONS!

The Cooking Camp Competition dishes prepared by our talented chefs today were all delicious and our judges had a very hard time selecting a winning team in each division!

Thanks to our awesome panel of judges this year: Jessica Turner, Dale Vaughn, Paige Johnson, and Steve Mulder. Special thanks to our amazing Cooking Camp Staff and volunteers: Joann Powers, Dixie Johnston, Jacquie McDonald, Julia Benincosa, and Levi Vining. We thank Mag Kiento from our Operations team for help with setup and cleanup and Emilie Covington for her assistance with AV.

We couldn’t run camp without the expertise and passion for cooking of Camp Instructor, Mrs. Trudy Gill.

Participants, keep cooking! When you cook for others, you are offering hospitality, displaying the heart of Christ, and serving God by offering a place at your table for others. See you back next summer!

Cooking Camp DAY 3

Today’s devotional was on how food is a language of care. When we cook for others we offer hospitality. When we offer hospitality and serve others, we display the heart of Christ.

Going along with our lesson, participants made a tasty summer squash medley with chicken over pasta, their choice of cheesy biscuits or plain biscuits (or crescent rolls - older age group), and coconut or chocolate cakes (and cookies - older age group) to serve to their families for dinner this evening. They also practiced knife safety and cutting skills and tried different types of vegetables prepared different ways - roasted, baked, sautéed, topped with sauce or cheese - to taste which way they preferred to eat them.

We hope our Cooking Camp families enjoy dinner this evening! We pray you feel the love and care that went into making it, hospitality in the meal presented before you, and cherished time around the dinner table together.

Cooking Camp DAY 2:

Today our youngest campers made strawberry muffins, chocolate cake with frosting, and cinnamon bread. Our oldest age group made homemade crescent rolls, coconut cake, and cinnamon bread.

Through these recipes, our campers learned how to reduce fractions to cut a recipe in half, separate eggs, whip to make meringue, and bake using yeast.

Our devotion today was on service and how many, many stories in the Bible involve food. Perhaps food is not something to be treated as lightly as we often do. Meeting the physical needs of people often ministers more than words and ultimately gives us a unique opportunity that can lead to deeper conversation. Campers were challenged to ask God to place someone on their heart that they could bless with a portion of the items they made at camp today.

Cooking Camp DAY 1

Theme: “I was created to create!”
God created each of us with unique gifts, talents, and a purpose. Use your God-given purpose to create in a way that glorifies Him and blesses the world around you.

Today our campers made layered cakes from scratch. Our oldest age group had time to make homemade strawberry muffins, too. Our youngest age group will complete theirs tomorrow!

Through these recipes, our campers learned the creaming process using a mixer be**er bar, how to temper eggs, and knife cutting skills.

Way to go, Campers! See you back tomorrow!

Camp dates/times: June 8-11, 2026
Session 1 (Grades 3-5): 9am-12pm
Session 2 (Grades 6-8): 1-4pm

Cook-off Competition (participant family and friends are invited!):
Session 1 = Thursday, June 11th at 11am
Session 2 = Thursday, June 11th at 3pm

*Camp takes place in our church Fellowship Hall NOT the CEC where you registered. The FH is the first building to your left when you turn into the back parking lot of the church. We will have a camp sign and balloons out front!
