ALHAMDULILLAH! OUR FARMER IS GEORGIA’S URBAN CONSERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR!
Mohammed Schools of Atlanta is incredibly proud to celebrate Sister Terri Ali, our Farmer and Garden Teacher, who has been named the 2026 Urban Conservationist of the Year by the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD)!
This statewide award recognizes individuals doing exemplary conservation work in Georgia’s urban communities, demonstrating a strong commitment to protecting our soil and water through responsible stewardship, education, outreach, and community engagement.
And that sounds a lot like our Sister Terri.
Under her leadership, our Firdous Community Garden & Farm has become so much more than a garden. It is a living classroom where our scholars put their role as khalifah (caretakers and stewards of the Earth) into practice.
From 30+ growing beds, orchards and hoop houses to composting, soil health, regenerative growing and our Farm-to-Cafeteria program, Sister Terri has helped transform a piece of urban land into a place where children learn that caring for the Earth, growing wholesome food and serving community are all connected.
GACD specifically recognized Sister Terri for transforming limited urban land into a productive regenerative agricultural system while teaching scores of students hands-on conservation principles. She was nominated for this honor by the DeKalb County Conservation District and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
We are deeply grateful that Georgia’s Urban Conservationist of the Year is OUR farmer!
Sis. Terri, thank you for planting seeds —in the soil, in our school, in our community, and most importantly, in our children.
