2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

Commentary:
Ephesians 1:13-14 says, “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” God is with us and in us through the “deposit” of the Holy Spirit which comes by believing the gospel. 2 Timothy 1:17 says, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” The Holy Spirit is why those who belong to Christ can (and must) turn away from evil. Jesus says in John 14:26: “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Luke 10:29-35
But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

Commentary:
Today we meet "The Good Samaritan", the man who stops to help a stranger (his neighbor). Not only does he help him, but he has compassion for him. The act of helping does not come from a removed sense of obligation, it comes from a shift in the Samaritan's heart. His is a heart that ia moved by injustice and the needs of people, just like Jesus. Jesus was “deeply moved in spirit and troubled” (NIV) when He saw Mary and the other Jews weeping because of Lazarus’ death. Is the Samaritan concerned about being robbed by the innkeeper? Does he know for sure that the money will be used to care for the injured man? If he is concerned, that does not stop him from doing what he can to help. Show others the mercy you were shown by Jesus Christ. Love your neighbor.

2 Timothy 2:14-16
Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

Commentary:
Paul is urging Timothy to hold to the truth and keep the integrity of the gospel intact. There is also caution to not quarrel about words, because it probably would lead those who are listening astray, or to not receive the gospel. The call to discipleship brings with it responsibility. We must take care and seek the leading of the Holy Spirit as we communicate with other believers, and with everyone – because God’s invitation to Himself is for all. Holy Spirit, lead us and grant us the words to say as You move us to speak the truth in love to those we meet. Your faithfulness is sure! Please lead us to repentance and complete dependence upon You to live boldly where You take us.

1 Timothy 2:5-7
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.

Commentary:
Hebrews 8:6 says, “But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.” Hebrews 9:15 says, “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.” Our great hope of reconciling with God is Jesus Christ. It is because of an encounter and relationship with Jesus that we are able to live by the Spirit of God and not by the flesh. We can live in victory because He overcame sin and death. Thank you, Lord Jesus! In John 6:48 Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.”
