Our Discipleship Pathway at Stanwich is based around the vision of Acts 2:42–47. The early church didn't grow because of programs - but because of transformed lives lived together. Their homes were open, their relationships authentic, and their tables became places where others encountered the love of Christ. May we embody the same hospitality and grow in an open, invitational, posture today.

"And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42–47)

Roger Holland II, Teaching Professor of Music and Religion and Director of the Spirituals Project at Lamont School of Music, University of Denver.

Spiritually curious? Try Alpha!

It’s designed for those who are curious about the Christian faith, or for those who are rethinking their faith. If you are curious, skeptical, or just have questions, bring them to Alpha and explore them with new friends!

Alpha is like a dinner party, where guests are invited to socialize, watch a short film, and engage in judgment-free discussion. Each evening features a 25-minute talk or film designed to inspire questions and discussions around meaning, life and faith, as they unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?

The best part of the night is the conversation, where you will get to know the people around the dinner table, ask big questions, and share your thoughts and experiences of life and faith. Each group is led through the evening by a host who asks questions and leads conversation around the night's question.

You are free to share or ask whatever you'd like and as much or as little as you're comfortable with. We’d love to hear your perspective! Come as you are, and attend when you can. Our hope is that you will feel welcome, comfortable, and free to ask questions in an honest, open and friendly environment. If you come, we won't call you afterwards, write, or ask you to pick up the check - the ball is completely in your court.

"Do you seen this woman?" Jesus said to Simon. Similarly, who might you be overlooking because of assumptions, familiarity, or busyness?

Simon and the woman welcomed the same guest in two completely different ways. Simon fulfilled the appearance of hospitality while missing its heart. The woman responded to Jesus with extravagant love because she knew the depth of his grace.

"Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” (Luke 7:44–47)

Throughout his ministry, Jesus became known for welcoming the "wrong" people. His encounter with Zacchaeus shows that Jesus doesn't wait for people to find him—he takes the initiative, enters their world, and transforms lives through his presence. "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)

How do we build relationships that reflect the love, unity, and heart of the Kingdom of God? As Christians, we want to love people well. Yet there are often unseen assumptions, habits, and perspectives that shape the way we see and respond to others. Our training this past weekend on "The Work of Loving Well" invited us to reflect honestly on those places in our own lives, looking to Jesus, who consistently crossed social and cultural boundaries with compassion, dignity, and grace, as our example.

Stanwich on mission serving up a table full of snow cones for a shift at Bridgeport Rescue Mission's Back to School Block Party. This was a day filled with family fun, community resources, food, music, and school supplies! Thank you for joining the community to help students head into the new school year with confidence - and full backpacks.

During Summer Movie Night our Stanwich Kids Ministry hosted over 60 attendees for a screening of the Angel Studios film David - complete with a sundae bar from Gofer Ice Cream. Then, Sunday's sermon featured a story about the king after God's own heart and it reminded us that every hospitality table points to the Lord's Table. David's welcome of Mephibosheth is a powerful picture of covenant grace—kindness extended not because it was earned, but because of a promise. It reflects the way God welcomes us into his family.
